UW System enrollment figures show there are 12.68 percent less
out-of-state students in this year's freshman class than in
previous classes. This may be due to last year's tuition increases
leading undergraduate out-of-state students to pay four times as
much as in-state students.

After a week off, the UW men's hockey team is ready to play
against the University of Minnesota-Duluth (2-2-2 Western
Collegiate Hockey Association, 2-3-3 overall) at Duluth this
weekend. The Badgers (0-2, 4-4) were swept by Denver (3-1-0, 8-2-0)

The Wisconsin men's hockey team (0-2-0 Western Collegiate Hockey
Association, 4-4-0 overall) hoped to celebrate Halloween with a win
against the No. 2 Denver Pioneers (2-0-0, 7-1-0) as both teams
begin conference play. Wisconsin fans came to the Kohl Center
dressed in their red and white, or other various forms of costumes,
to get some treats and see UW get some tricks. The Badgers played
against one of the top defenses and goalies in the nation, Pioneer
senior goalie Wade Dubielewicz.

The Madison City Council once again delayed action Tuesday night
on a proposed smoking ban in area bars and restaurants where food
sales are greater than 50 percent. Although Ald. Matt Sloan,
District 13, the council president, met with representatives from
the restaurant industry and public health groups in order to reach
a compromise, the council body voted to revisit the issue Nov. 19.

A hands-on course studying the building of the new Overture
Center for the Arts, located at the site of the current Madison
Civic Center, will begin Friday at UW-Madison. The class, the first
of its kind, is being co-sponsored by the UW-Madison Arts Institute
and the Overture Foundation and will continue through the semester.

As the UW men's soccer season came to an end last winter, with a
10-8-1 overall record, the program had once again become stable
since its decline after the 1995 NCAA championship season. This
quickly changed, however, after the resignation of Head Coach
