"The Rite of Spring" is one of the most influential musical compositions of the twentieth century. Created by a young, Russian man named Sergei Diaghilev in 1913, it tells the story of primitive celebrations of the solstice followed by a sacrifice of a young girl who dances herself to death. The exciting piece has been adapted to more modern music styles and was even used in Disney’s "Fantasia." The Bad Plus uses their keen sense of jazz to try and recreate this classical piece as literally as possible.

?Is Putin rational? Yes, just like terrorists are rational. Before 9/11, many people perceived terrorists as crazy maniacs who waived AK-47s and RPGs over their heads, justifying their seemingly irrational deeds under their god’s name. However, now it is acknowledged by most of the people around the world that terrorists are rational because they pursue their specific political or religious goals with deliberate tactics. Just like the initial perceptions of “crazy terrorists,” Putin’s maneuver of occupying Crimea with “unidentified troops” was perceived irrational or too radical. Many individuals assumed the situation would be unraveled by the Western power’s efforts and Russia’s drawback in response to that. However, the situation was carried out in favor of pro-Russian Crimeans and Russia. Just a few days ago, Putin signed the pact annexing Crimea into the Russian Federation in response to the ballot with 93 percent of Crimeans backing the annexation.

Artificial Intelligence is defined as the ability for a machine such as a computer to perform functions analogous to learning and decision making. This past summer undergraduates Anjali Narayan-Chen and Liqi Xu taught the computer how to play Angry Birds. Angry birds is a popular game where using a slingshot, the player shoots wingless birds to kill pigs. And like other games, there are several levels of difficulty, different sizes and colors of birds, and different obstacles. With each game, new birds and special abilities can be activated by the player.

I love walking around the Dane County Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings to enjoy the crisp fall air, take in the smell of fresh baked bread and of course relish the beautiful colors of the flowers and vegetables lining the streets of Capitol Square. Simply wandering around the market last Saturday inspired me to take advantage of as much local food as possible before winter comes. Tomato and Kale, two of the main components of this savory pizza, are both in the peak of their season during the fall, and they can be found around every corner at the farmer’s market.
