The Daily Cardinal Editorial Board believes that University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank should be more active in supporting diversity efforts on campus.Throughout the chancellor search process in Spring 2013, Blank was not outspoken about UW-Madison’s diversity. From her very first visits to campus, Blank did not champion improving diversity and campus climate as a priority. She instead focused many of her talks on expanding funding sources and connecting with students and faculty.
So I don’t write a lot about acting, pretty simply because I’m a person who wants to make movies and so I think about movies more through the lens of people who produce the films, and not those who perform in them. Which is dumb, because actors are as big a part of a movie as the director or editor. So I’m going to fix it.
In a stunning display of confidence, University of Wisconsin-Madison sophomore Jared Lang boldly stepped between two other men to take the middle urinal in the crowded Humanities Building second floor bathroom yesterday.
As the seasons change, so does makeup. There are two sides to fall: bright colors or lovely neutrals.
Fall Out Boy has been in the media quite often within the past year after a four-year hiatus and surprise return with Save Rock and Roll. Their fans expressed mixed feelings about the comeback album; some people regarded it as not being punk enough and others loved the change in pace. Their newest EP Pax-Am Days is almost the complete opposite of the epic, star-studded Save Rock and Roll. It was produced by Ryan Adams at PAX-AM Studios within a two-day span, and Adams’ minimalistic editing makes for an excellent, rugged punk sound. The guitars are heavily distorted, the drumming is fast and aggressive and Patrick Stump’s lead vocals stand out among the insane instrumentals.
Sunday night at the High Noon Saloon, bearded indie weirdo Father John Misty turned cryptic disclosures about putting babies into ovens and wanting to be called “Nancy” into soaring ballads worthy of tender love-making sessions.

Last week, state Senate and Assembly Democrats walked down State Street to hear students’ perspectives on the current student loan crisis. The event featured state Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee, as well as state Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, and state Rep. Chris Taylor, D- Madison, among several others.
For the last couple weeks a scene from the West Wing has been etched into my head. The scene is in the first season and comes after the Bartlet administration has been struggling to pass any legislation. After a conversation in the Oval Office, President Bartlet and his chief of staff Leo McGarry decide to “let Bartlet be Bartlet.” Leo goes to his office and tells the high level staff, “We’re gonna put the ball in the air. If we’re gonna walk into walls, I want us running into ’em full speed.” For the last couple weeks, it appears President Barack Obama, with Secretary of State John Kerry on his side, has been running at full speed.
Just like Tony Stark’s suits, Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3” is all about piecing together the moving parts. And after 2012’s “The Avengers” he’s got a fair amount of questions and repercussions to deal with. The opening of the film finds a Tony Stark plagued by insomnia and anxiety attacks as he attempts to reconcile his previously logical world with the bombastic events he took part in and witnessed in in New York City with his new superfriends.
The city’s Mifflin full-court press has dealt dismay to the hearts of thousands who pine for gluttonous amounts of racist neon tanktops and a spectrum of liquor in spring jubilation. Granted, in a world where social media reigns supreme, the people weren’t pleased and didn’t hesitate to respond. People are pissed at the fact their grandiose spectacle has been revoked from them. It’s not Badger-like, it’s not fair and it’s unnecessary.
This is the third installment in Niko’s series of the best beer bars in Madison.
In 2002, Justin Timberlake released his debut solo album, Justified, a commercial success and a distinctive move away from his boy-band success with ’N Sync. While Timberlake and the rest of ’N Sync were an important part of my early childhood, Timberlake made the solo-move at the perfect time, and the Timbaland-produced album assured it was still cool to like Justin Timberlake.
Every once in a while, an incident comes along that perfectly clarifies the state of our political discourse. Last week, Sen. Rand Paul’s, R-Kentucky, 13-hour filibuster did exactly that. Anyone even remotely concerned with civil liberties, checks and balances and due process of law should have cheered Paul’s filibuster for seeking explicit limits on the use of drones against American citizens on American soil. Indeed, Paul’s discussion, while welcome, did not go remotely far enough in scope.
Last week, Marissa Mayer, current CEO of Yahoo!, declared to her Yahoo! employees they were no longer allowed to telecommute, a change to begin June of this year. I was amazed to hear about her bold move to make it mandatory to work in the office, or as the memo, sent by Yahoo!’s human resources head Jackie Reses, actually reads, “We need to be one Yahoo!., and that starts with physically being together.”
Hey ya’ll, I’m here today to talk to you about something that you’ve probably had questions about before: supplements. Whether you’re someone who’s trying to bulk up or trim down, you’ve probably struggled to find any coherent information on the topic, let alone the right supplements to your unique situation. But don’t worry—I’m here to help.
Anytime Oscar season rolls around, I’m reminded of how impossible it is to please everybody. After the nominations are announced and the dust has settled on the passive aggressive (or in the case of some of this years nominations, very aggressive) tweets regarding the selections of the Academy, which films were so called “Oscar bait,” I think to myself how hard it must be sometimes to be a member of the Academy. And while I do agree that occasionally smaller films are overlooked in favor of “Oscar Bait,” I would submit that, more often than not, the best film of the year typically receives the nominations and awards it deserves.
Speculum, a minute, secluded village encircled by dense forest, has a security problem. Though the village itself is relatively safe, danger lurks beyond its timber borders. Every time a member of the community ventures into the woods, they return a monstrous version of their former selves. In some cases the transformation takes years; others reappear by nightfall. Regardless, their intention (do they still have intentions?) is the same: to wreak havoc on the community and prey upon the weak. They froth at the mouth like rabid dogs, covered in cuts and bruises beneath the tattered remnants of their former clothes. Some say they no longer feel pain, running at full speed despite missing limbs and inconceivable wounds. Such ghoulish imagery dominates the frightening tales told to Speculum’s children and occupies the minds of their apprehensive parents.
One of the best—and admittedly most confusing—elements of craft beer is the seemingly endless list of styles that brewers toss around. For the adventurous, such limitless variety creates an optimism in tasting new brews, as even the most experienced beer drinkers are bound to stumble upon something new eventually. But for everyone else, the giant range of flavors can be intimidating, too often forcing you to take a shot in the dark when ordering something new. Though I can’t touch upon nearly every beer style out there, I’ll do my best to help.
