A little over a year ago in Ann Arbor, Michigan overcame a
19-point halftime deficit to beat then-undefeated Wisconsin, and
kick-started a four-game losing streak that sent the Badgers'
season into a tailspin. On Saturday, Wisconsin looks to return the
favor.

Wednesday afternoon hit me with a pondering surprise. I just
consumed a sandwich for lunch and continued searching for that
little something extra to top off the meal before class. As I began
scrounging the kitchen and pantry for possibilities, waves of food
memories and growth washed over me.

I try not to join many new crazes, avoiding bandwagons all
together. During the boy band music craze of the '90s, I stuck with
my Billy Ray Cyrus and Rocking Hits of the '60s"" tapes, avoiding
Britney and Christina at all costs. I prefer old, classic and
astute qualities in my decisions in life, mostly regarding men,
music, movies and buildings. Science Hall is by far my favorite
building on campus, in all its ancient historic glory. Grainger, on
the other hand, continually lets me down, especially when it comes
to food.

Restaurants are about more than just the food. Restaurants are
an experience, from the process of deciding where to eat to
deciding who pays for the check. They should entertain, bring new
experiences and give you satisfaction. It's basically like finding
your soul mate. Sometimes you lower your standards, sometimes you
dish out the cash for something nice, but in the end, you choose
what makes you happiest.

I walked to breakfast at Mickey's this past Saturday around 10
and passed truckloads of alumni and families already tailgating at
full speed for the seven o'clock night game. Their ridiculously
amazing amount of preparation continually amazed me.

The weather cooled down this weekend, and I thought it might be
time to trade in the sundress for a solid pair of jeans. I opened
my bottom drawer and stared into the diverse accumulation of pants
from high school years to present. I sighed, glanced up and shouted
out in pain at the thought of deciding what to wear.

Some say kids lose knowledge in the summer, but I've learned two
important things these past three months. Both facts were gained
unintentionally on annual summer excursions, and both relate to
drinking.

Freshmen year rocks and sucks all at the same time. That's what
makes it freshmen year. It's awesome that you can go out any night
you want and drink as much as you want, but the 36 hour hangover
really sucks. It's sweet to be able to attend whatever class you
choose, but it sucks if skipping that class bites you in the butt
later on the exam. It's all about learning lessons and knowing your
options. I'm here to help you through the lessons of freshmen
cuisine.

Now that Easter and Lent are over, I feel the need to get a few
confessions off my chest. First of all, I forgot to give something
up for Lent. Oops. Well, that's minor. I can be forgiven for that.

Everyone handles stress differently. Some continually talk about
how much stress they have and then proceed to keep talking about
how much needs to be done instead of doing anything about their
stress, which results in a higher accumulation of stress.

To celebrate National Peanut Butter Month, I recently went on a
quest through marketing jungle, advertising and catchy slogans to
find my favorite peanut butter.

Valentine's Day has come and gone, and some still have something
to show for it. An oversized heart-shaped balloon may still be
wilting in the corner next to the dying overpriced bouquet of
cliché roses.

Weekends are wonderful things, and we look forward to them as
little glimpses of heaven from the Gods of Academia. Finally a day
arrives that allows us to sleep until 1 p.m., lounge in our pajamas
while watching cartoons and basically live the American Dream we
have always been promised.

I have been blessed with three roommates who despise leftovers.
I couldn't have planned my housing situation better in this way.
It's a glorious to be the self-proclaimed day-after queen.

With Super Tuesday"" over, Democrats are expected to focus on
Wisconsin's Feb. 19 primary election much earlier than
Republicans.

Lately, I have been grappling with the question of whether you
really are what you eat. Does eating pork make you a pig? I enjoy a
nice juicy burger from time to time. Does that make me a cow? Crab
legs also tickle my taste buds. Does this combination make me a
crabby, porked-up cow? I like to think not.
