The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Editorial Board pressured Gov. Jim Doyle to return the $20,000 dollars in campaign contributions connected with Adelman Travel executives Friday.
The Journal Sentinel Editorial Board had originally endorsed Doyle in his bid for governor, but is now urging him to give back the money amassed from both the president of Adelman Travel and a top board member.
In a statement Friday, Rick Wiley, executive director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, said this exemplifies the fact that Doyle is not sincere about cleaning up his administration.
'Jim Doyle remains the last person in Wisconsin who doesn't understand that he should return his tainted cash,' Wiley said. 'His 'zero tolerance' policy for ethical lapses in his administration seems to have at least 20,000 loopholes in it.'
Wiley said Doyle's refusal to return Adelman contributions will not bode well with Wisconsin voters.
'The governor seems to be in a free-fall mode,' Wiley said.
