Madison Police report two hate crimes on State Street over weekend

Two separate crimes that occurred on State Street last weekend are being called racially motivated by the Madison Police Department.

The first occurred at 12:25 a.m. Sunday outside Madison Masala, 115 State St., where a 24-year-old white woman said she accidentally bumped into a black woman, who screamed and swore racial slurs at her.

The suspect proceeded to bite the first woman in the cheek, causing puncture wounds and then fled the scene. She is described as between 5'9\ and 5'11"", approximately 150 pounds, has black hair with braids and was last seen wearing cheetah-print pants. She was still at large Wednesday, according to MPD Public Information Officer Larry Kamholz.
