Though many students scramble to bring home ‘A's, they might not
have to worry about their not-so-good grades spoiling the holidays.
Under an act, parents are forbidden access to a student's grades
unless the student authorizes it in writing.

Meghann Young is a UW-Madison junior majoring in elementary
education. Her love for children particularly motivates her during
her 30 hours per week nannying job. Although her kids see her as a
sweet, patient caretaker who enjoys playing trucks with them, they
would probably be surprised to hear about her incident with the
Madison police this summer in which she was spotlighted in the
midst of a skinny dip. Might want to leave that one off the
rAcsumAc.

The typical university student is surrounded by financial jargon
and buzzwords as they maneuver through his or her college years. By
the end of four years, students know that professors are paid
obscenely high salaries, parking costs are impossible and
segregated fees are why we all have to eat Ramen. All these topics
sound familiar enough, but upon further investigation, the average
student's knowledge about the actual facts surrounding these issues
is minimal at best.

Save this clipping, because Sarah Gorlow's going to be famous
and you'll want proof you knew her. She's going to revolutionize
Hacky-Sacking. Established in 1972 as a form of physical therapy,
Hacky-Sack is a team sport commonly enjoyed outdoors. But Sarah's
got big plans for this humble game of Footbag. While everyone
else's skills will get rusty this winter as parks freeze over,
Sarah's going to take Hacky-Sack inside, perfecting her 'Toilet
Stalls,' 'Clipper Kicks' and 'Pendulums.' But hey, if you start
practicing now, maybe Sarah will let you be on her team this
winter.

There is bittersweet sentiment from both Madison city officials
and UW-Madison students following a Saturday night filled with a
boisterous crowd of more than 100,000 on State Street, chants of,
'Fuck the police' and the deployment of pepper spray to clear the
largest gathering the State Street Halloween celebration has ever
seen.

The Student Services Finance Committee's vote Thursday to slash
the majority of SAFEwalk's budget will permanently bench many
red-shirted SAFEwalkers-all for the sake of green. Money issues
permeated the debate over the SAFEwalk decision as SSFC members
assessed the \value"" of walking a student home versus that of
providing a ""free"" cab ride. Although the misguided compromise
initially appeases the SSFC and appears like a boon for the
reallocation of students' segregated fees, it will drastically
increase the cost of SAFEride and future financial burden.

Yesterday's Alcohol License Review Committee meeting served up
many items for discussion. Perhaps the most appealing of these for
UW students is the proposed Performing Arts Venue License, which
enables those 18 and older to enjoy musical events at nightclub
establishments. While it still remains a proposal, the committee's
mention of ASM's petition for this license, which contains about
500 signatures, will count in their final decision.

The University Book Store will celebrate its 110th birthday on
Feb. 26. The store began its journey in 1894 with the motto, \for
the benefit of the students, not for profit"" which drove the
store's development over the years as it has faced the challenge of
meeting the needs of an ever-growing and changing student
body.

On a night that saw the greatest offensive output by the Badgers
women's basketball team (2-10 Big Ten, 8-14 overall) this season, a
