Class of 2015, as you venture through the first few weeks at
UW-Madison, you may now be realizing Wisconsin stereotypes about
cow farms and cheese are not all true, while rumors about
alcoholism and rednecks are very accurate. The school is everything
‘College Life' made it seem to be.

Hipsters. I vote them the second most interesting creatures to ever
walk this planet. The first is without a doubt the three-toed
sloth, but that's another story. Hipsters are the absolute pinnacle
of people-watching, and I'm so glad they have graced us with their
presence over the past five years.

You'll have to look elsewhere this weekend if you want to see
singing nuns or children frolicking in the hills of Austria.
Instead, ""[title of show],"" a modern one-act musical, will be
playing at the Mitchell Theatre. This meta-theater
production ran in Madison over the summer and is being brought back
for a two-weekend run.

For many, the death of ""Muppets"" creator Jim Henson in 1990
passed the decades-old franchise into the realm of nostalgia, an
indelible cultural songbook shielded from the ravages of modern
tastes. Yet while the Muppets: The Green Album's conceit
of mixing classic Muppet anthems with the likes of Weezer or The
Fray might ring as exploitative, the result is an uneven but
pleasantly sunny romp that showcases more the strength in the
original songwriting than the vanity of its multi-platinum
stars.

Thirty million dollars. That's the most recent estimate of the
amount of money spent on the August recall elections. To put that
into perspective, Wisconsin's deficit estimate this past spring,
which triggered the budget repair bill and waves of protests, was
$137 million. The money spent on these special elections would have
solved 20 percent of that budget crisis and would have been enough
to cover the average salaries of 646 teachers in one year.

HERE I AM. It is 3:27 a.m. on Monday, May 2. I am in the process of
writing a paper for class. The opening quote, from ""Comparative
Studies on Intersubjectivity in Modern Art:"" ""As the self opens
up to the other, while also offering itself per se, it cannot avoid
being altered, and, by the same token, constitutes itself as an
ever dynamic, changing self, rather than a foreclosed
individuality.""

Fans of Los Angeles-based musician Alfred Darlington,
a.k.a Daedelus, are quick to emphasize
the DJ's continual defiance of genre. He mixes elements of jazz,
rock, dubstep, film clips and ambient noise—critics
claim he mixes with abandon for an eclectic repertoire. Whether you
believe that or not, the trend of listen-ability is one he fully
continues in Bespoke, a Ninja Tune release that exemplifies
Daedelus at his best and most controversial.

Every day, the national debt rises by $4 billion. This is an astounding number by any account, and one that is unsustainable for a healthy economy. In response to this spiraling plunge, a number of our nation's most prominent politicians have put forth plans to single-handily eliminate the deficit and get America back on the ""Path to Prosperity."" Like a peanut gallery playing a game of hot potato, the Democrats and Republicans continue to disagree about the right combination of cuts and tax increases, offering wildly different proposals with little chance of reconciliation.
