Three albums into his solo career, Cee Lo Green is on the tip of
everyone's tongues. Whether or not he can stay there, however, is a
question that The Lady Killer addresses. The lead single
for this record, ""Fuck You!"" was leaked to huge viral success,
creating enormous buzz around the album. But as genius as ""Fuck
You!"" is, the rest of the album lacks this initial punch.

Despite consisting of one of the music industry's consistently
successful hip-hop/pop production teams, the Neptunes, N.E.R.D.'s
group work has never topped the charts. Ten years and three studio
albums have not given the trio of Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and
Shay Haley much radio play. In fact, the highest chart position of
any of their songs came in 2004 with ""She Wants To Move"" hitting
fifth on the U.K. singles chart. While N.E.R.D.'s albums have been
more successful than their singles (with In Search Of…
(2002) and Fly or Die (2004) both reaching gold status)
the three Grammys and two Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards sitting
on a shelf in the Neptunes' studio are better indicators of the
group's excellent production and arrangement skills.

The recent release of over 391,000 classified Pentagon documents by
WikiLeaks has revealed startling details about the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The leaked information expose a much higher civilian
death toll than what the U.S. government has publicly revealed. It
also reveals that abuse and torture of Iraqi prisoners by Iraqi
military and police forces was a commonality known to U.S. troops
but rarely acted upon. The documents also reveal that a shocking
number of private contractors were active in the war. Furthermore,
the documents highlight Iran's involvement in supplying rebel
forces with supplies, training and support which has prompted many
to classify the country's involvement as a shadow war with the
United States and its allies.

When Hollywood studios started to realize that mining the childhood
nostalgia of Generations X and Y with quality movie adaptations
such as ""Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen"" and ""G.I. Joe:
The Rise of Cobra"" could be a gold mine, they rushed to procure
the rights to any entertainment property that had been even
remotely popular within the last 30 years. While 2010 may have been
the year of the sequels and reboots, 2011 and 2012 are shaping up
to be the years where all the memories of your favorite childhood
toys and games may be altered forever as studios dig up their
remains and make them dance for your ten bucks on silver screens
across the country.

Last week in New Beer Thursday I brought up Oktoberfest beers
without actually reviewing one of the style. So this week and next
the New Beer Desk is going to take an in-depth look at the
style.

For some reason, football season seems to fly by every year. Maybe
it's because teams can't play everyday like in baseball. Maybe it's
because the playoffs don't serve as a regular-season redo like in
the NBA and NHL. Whatever the reason may be, it feels
like I just woke up from my NFL preseason-induced nap and yet we're
already a quarter of the way through the regular season slate.

According to several sources, Martin Kaysher has been spotted
strutting with through campus with self-assured swagger in the past
few weeks. His uniform of baggy jeans, North Face jacket and a flat
brim Yankees hat has established, without a doubt, that Kaysher is
a die-hard coastie and New York Yankees fan.

Choosing a beer is a lot like renting a movie, there are so damn
many and I would like to experience every one, but all I have is
ten bucks and one night. So I shop and I shop until I find a new
beer that looks worthy with the right price and finally I decided
on this friendly looking chap. At home I crack it open and think
and taste and enjoy.

Any animated film that comes out the same summer as a Pixar
film is bound to have trouble meeting those high standards.
Illumination Entertainment, the new Universal/NBC-owned production
company tries its hardest with ""Despicable Me,"" a lighthearted
caper film that draws inspiration from ""The Incredibles"" and
""Monsters, Inc.,"" among others. ""Despicable Me"" is a worthy
first effort for the fledgling animation studio, and while the film
certainly doesn't reach Pixar's lofty levels, it's still an
enjoyable family movie.

As much as we love those men in uniform, Madison can't get
enough of the jolly fellows patrolling the streets via pedals. Yes,
Madison has a love for the diligent and forceful bike police who
make it top priority to catch and ticket any criminals illegally
zipping through Library Mall at record speeds. This safety squad is
just one small portion of Madison's extreme efforts to create and
uphold a more bike friendly city.

Rock shows and record stores. That is what touring was all about
according to Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore in ""I Need That
Record!,"" a documentary that was streamed on the Pitchfork website
on the heels of Record Store Day. It profiles various record stores
as they shut down and the audiophiles who depended on them for
sustenance, and interviews industry veterans for perspectives
reaching back to the early prominence of the recording industry. It
laments the decline of independent music stores and the creative
side of the industry. Yet out of all of the dejected faces seen,
hope can be found when the undertones of those laments point to
industry-defying artists of today.
