I’m sure you all have your guilty pleasures—those delightful bits of enjoyment you try to eradicate from your search histories in attempts to salvage your credibility—and I am no exception. Whether you enjoy the occasional supernatural romance or find some sort of bizarre pleasure in watching bourgeois housewives pull each others’ hair, these underrated—or maybe properly rated—TV trifles are both the joy and the bane of our existence. Here are some of my current favorite guilty pleasures. I won’t judge you if you don’t judge me.

A tough weekend went from bad to worse for the Wisconsin men’s hockey team (1-2-1 WCHA, 1-4-1 overall) Saturday night as the team was swept by Colorado College and then lost their leading scorer, junior forward Mark Zengerle, to a broken finger.

This Sunday is the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of
Sept. 11. It is a day that shaped the United State for the next
decade and beyond. Our government responded with wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as controversial homeland security
measures like the Patriot Act. Many citizens responded to the
attacks by uniting with a strong sense of patriotism and
pride .

It's Sunday as I'm writing this and like usual it will be until
midnight. But come midnight, Cinderella won't be the only girl
bawling her eyes out because her dreams are suddenly shattered. I
too will be crying—crying over the painful loss of my sanity (yet
again) because spring break is over. I have only nine hours and
fifty-seven minutes until I arrive at my romantic poetry class two
minutes late. I've become that perpetually-slightly-late kid, but
what can you expect from a person taking their final undergraduate
classes? Well, you can assume that after procrastinating on writing
this column for the entirety of break I'm doing so in a laundromat.
Procrastination… like finally washing the seven loads of dirty
clothing I've kept stockpiled in my closet for about a month—bet
the rental company loved showing that. Serves them right for
sending me an email and calling and leaving a voicemail I will
never listen to each time they schedule a showing.

As thousands of protestors flooded campus on their way to the
Capitol, some UW-Madison student groups tried to make sense of the
proposed Budget Repair Bill for students.

The way I see it, my life didn't start when my newly born alveoli
recoiled from the putrid air of humanity, but rather once I entered
the cardboard cutout Candyland of the Scholastic Book Fair. Prior
to then I was only a strikingly lifelike child drone with an active
interest in buttery noodles.

Every once in awhile the Sundance Film Festival will send us
Badgers a special cinematic treat. Madison is lucky enough to have
a Sundance Cinema located at Hilldale Mall, which means the
festival will usually give us a special screening of one of the
festival's highlights. This year's film is none other than the
winner of the festival's U.S. Dramatic Competition Grand Jury
Prize, ""Like Crazy"". Director Drake Doremus' new film is full of
fresh talent and it one of the most honest portrayals of young love
in recent memory.

Ice cream? Nah. Organize my room? Yeah, right. 30-minute rant to
some loving family member? They're all asleep by nine. And at
midnight, who wants to try and use any of these productive and
un-self-destructive behaviors for stress-release? Not I. It had
been one of those shitty study days and the only feasible remedy
was a delicious pint of brew—or so I thought.

Pay $10 for Freakfest? When I only want to visit my bartending
friend who works at ______? Sorry you good boys and girls, I'm
bordering on ""Savers only"" and ""raid parents' house for things I
can use"" broke. Plus, I have principles and ""attempt to get in
sans being forced to lay down cold, hard cash"" ranks in the top
five. Look, I was only on State Street's
horse-shit-and-puke-plastered pavement for all of two blocks in
transit to a party después de drinks at the aforementioned bar, so
at least give me the chance to tell you about my adventure.

Lets hear a great big hip-hip-hooray for our good friend Mr. Jim
""The Mad Mechanic"" Schmidt as it's his 30th birthday! You may
recognize this picture from the news since on this specific day
only he transforms into a highly dangerous and well-known criminal
as soon as he grabs that dusty box on the top shelf, whips the
packing peanuts and moth balls on the floor and dons that demonic
welding mask even Beelzebub would run away from!

When crossing State Street, it's generally a good idea to look
both ways before stepping off the curb. This precaution holds true
not only for buses, taxis and delivery trucks rumbling from Lake
Street to the Capitol, but also for all of the bicyclists weaving
between vehicles. Including the speed-hungry bike messengers and
delivery riders who expertly maneuver around all obstacles.

There is a lot of talk about connection and unity in John
Burnside's ""The Glister,"" but ultimately the plethora of
quasi-intriguing themes are never fully developed, leaving the
reader with too many superfluous passages, unoriginal plot
elements, linguistic nuances and an overall sense of vagueness as
the author becomes engrossed in his own manipulation of language,
neglecting clarity along the way.

It seems like every year around February or March people make
the claim that it's the worst time of year. I've heard everything:
burnout from school, the not-quite-winter-but-not-quite-spring
weather, winter sports winding down, and even that they just hate
Valentine's Day with a fiery passion. I, however, love this time of
year for one simple reason: shitty movies. Yes, this time of year
is perfect for studios to pump out their corny formula comedies or
awful book adaptations for audiences who don't know any better. I'm
a bit of a film buff myself, and a little research produced some
quite surprising news. It appears that UW-Madison itself has been
an inspiration for many of these subpar films that come out this
time of year. I included titles and summaries from nine of the best
ones below:
