An estimated two million Wisconsinites would see a tax cut thanks to the Republicans’ $200 million tax plan sent to Gov. Tony Evers last Thursday.
The report from the Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy summarizes how the tax plan would affect low-income to middle-income taxpayers the most with an average of $100 per citizen.
Republican Legislative leaders like Sen. Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, have hoped to pass a tax cut because of Wisconsin’s projected surplus since last fall, and are proud to give back to the members of the state.
“Thanks to responsible budgeting and a strong economy in Wisconsin, I am thrilled that we were able to pass both an income tax cut for hard-working Wisconsin families and a tax cut for the businesses of our state,” Fitzgerald said.
Evers hoped to use some of the surplus — projected at about $600 million — to fund public school education, with a plan that “invest[ed] in our kids and property tax relief.”
Evers previously opposed the tax cuts, but still hasn’t said whether or not he would sign the bill.
