UW-Madison Parking enforcers from the Department of Transportation Services reported Wednesday a rise in illegal use of disabled parking spaces on campus.
A $200 ticket is issued to a motorist parked in a spot reserved for drivers with disabilities.
During the past fiscal year, parking enforcers issued 518 citations to illegal parkers'334 for the previous fiscal year and 279 for the fiscal year prior to that. Lot 5 on Bascom Hill records the highest number of violations. Second on the list is Lot 63 near the Clinical Sciences Center.
Officials also reported the vehicles belong not only to visitors or students, but also to UW employees who drive UW cars and trucks.
Student repeat offenders may be subject to nonacademic discipline; employees may also be subject to discipline.
