As part of the Associated Students of Madison’s Shared Governance Week of Action, a panel of University of Wisconsin-Madison campus leaders addressed diversity and climate issues Monday.
Despite the critical role of Madison voters in deciding which candidate wins Wisconsin’s electoral votes, many University of Wisconsin-Madison students who are also Minnesota residents have opted to vote absentee for their home state in Tuesday’s election.
The ladies of Dirty Projectors (Amber Coffman, Haley Dekle and newcomer Olga Bell) use their dense interplay of vocal harmonies to provide a powerful backdrop for frontman David Longstreth to warble and modulate over. While Longstreth’s anguished lilt has always characterized Dirty Projectors’ sound, the female vocal section led by Coffman stole the show on the track “Stillness is the Move” off the Projectors’ 2009 breakout record, Bitte Orca. The track attracted the attention of Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s more indie-inclined younger sister, who covered the song shortly thereafter. Bassist Nat Baldwin stays out of the vocal arena with the band, though his haunting vocals adorn his solo project's upright bass stylings.
Today the Muslim Students Association (MSA) will sponsor a free performance of an interfaith comedy duo in the Union South’s Varsity Hall II at 7 p.m. The event is part of the Laugh in Peace Tour, featuring Muslim comedian Azhar Usman and a Jewish Rabbi-turned-comedian, Bob Alper.
