No rest for the Badgers

Coming off of their biggest win of the season at Marquette this past Saturday, the UW men's basketball team is looking to ride this momentum into another difficult week. '

Win at Marquette displays depth

Although the star of Saturday's 70-66 win over Marquette may have been Alando Tucker, the Wisconsin men's basketball team may have found a diamond in the rough in Trevon Hughes.'

Please distract me, I’m studying

With finals coming up, most students see College Library as the ideal spot to absorb temporary knowledge for its peace and privacy—just you and your books. But as you sit in your little cubicle reviewing old lecture notes, let me make one suggestion: do not look up. No, do not look up because the words, numbers, symbols and drawings inscribed in the wood around you will suck you in. It always happens to me.

‘A Christmas Carol’ best of the bunch

My favorite pastime of the holiday season is arguing over the greatest Christmas movie of all time. The conventional choice is Frank Capra's classic ""It's a Wonderful Life."" There's just no arguing with Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed and the theme of ""No man is poor who has friends.""

Brand New’s style is brand new once again

When we were first introduced to Brand New in 2001 with Your Favorite Weapon, we heard a band with raw skills, pop-punk riffs and lyrics full of teenage angst. After building a fan base by touring relentlessly, Brand New went back to the studio to record 2003's Deja Entendu. Drastically different from YFW, it once again showed extreme potential (they actually learned to play their instruments), but many knew there was much more on the way.

Men’s hockey back on track with sweep at UND

The Wisconsin men's hockey team has been known to vanish late in the second and the entire third period, but if this past weekend's series against North Dakota is any indication of what is to come, then Badger fans should be in for a much different second half of the season.

Gibson piles on the gore in ‘Apocalypto’

After his DUI arrest and subsequent anti-Semitic rage this summer, Mel Gibson eclipsed Tom Cruise as America's preeminent crazy male celebrity. It's now impossible to discuss his movies, particularly everyone's favorite religious snuff film, ""The Passion of the Christ,"" without discussing the increasingly enigmatic man behind them, especially since his latest offerings have been so personal in nature. Gibson throws himself even further out there with ""Apocalypto,"" his much-ballyhooed epic set in 16th century Mayan civilization, and while the results are certainly not for everyone, it is a flawed but furiously entertaining adrenaline rush of a movie.

This Noir is more than black & white

Manchester, England's Jim Noir burst onto the scene with his tune ""Eanie Meany,"" used to striking effect in the ubiquitous Adidas ads which ran during the 2006 World Cup. Since, his three home-recorded EPs, made with backing group the Beep Seals, have been compiled and expanded upon as the Tower of Love full-length album.
