My how far they have come. When you look at what the No. 9
Wisconsin men's hockey team has done since their disastrous month
of November, you can't help but be impressed. The Badgers have now
won 10 of their past 11 games, but its how they're winning that
shows much they have grown as a team.

Head coach Mike Eaves said before the No. 9 Wisconsin men's hockey
team's (7-7-2 WCHA, 15-8-3 overall) two-week winter break that the
team would come back a reinvigorated group. As the Badgers head
into their fourth series since break this weekend against
conference foe Minnesota State-Mankato (4-9-3, 10-9-5) they find
themselves in the midst of their best stretch of the season, and
Eaves has to be pleased with what he has seen thus far out of his
young squad.

If you have success in the world of college football, more likely
than not, you are going to be rewarded for it. For Wisconsin
football head coach Bret Bielema, and offensive coordinator Paul
Chryst that was the case, as it was announced yesterday that both
had agreed to new compensation packages for the 2011-'12 season.
Both coaches will see their pay increase substantially from last
season.

Heading into the two-week winter break, the No. 9 Wisconsin men's
hockey team was searching for the consistency that would push them
to the next level, especially from their core of younger,
inexperienced players.

Multiple news outlets have reported Wisconsin hockey recruit Troy

Monday afternoon, Wisconsin senior quarterback Scott Tolzien was
announced as the recipient of the 2010 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm
Award, given each year to the nation's top senior quarterback.

While watching the Packers beat up on San Francisco this weekend, I
began to wonder: What are Sundays going to be like next year if
there isn't any NFL football to watch?

Trying to gain momentum after a rough month of November, the No. 15
Wisconsin men's hockey team made the long trek north to face off
with the University of Alaska-Anchorage this weekend..
Unfortunately, the Badgers will still have questions to answer,
splitting the series with the Seawolves. UAA used some last -second
heroics Friday night to steal the series opener by a score of 2-1,
before the Badgers, behind a strong power play, rebounded to force
the split Saturday, winning 3-1.

Needless to say, the month of November was not kind to the No. 15
Wisconsin men's hockey team (3-5-2 WCHA, 7-6-3 overall), the
Badgers were only able to muster three points from a six game home
stand.

This season, the Wisconsin football team has taken fans on a
magical ride. The Badgers' offense will go down as the most
prolific in this school's history. We've seen thrilling victories
over Ohio State and Iowa and a stretch run that saw the Big Ten's
middle class get steamrolled by the Badgers running game. It seems
Wisconsin will be heading to the Rose Bowl with a share of their
first Big Ten title in over a decade.

It is a frustrating feeling, but in sports there are times when a
team's good play goes unrewarded. This was the case for the
Wisconsin men's hockey team this weekend in their series against
top ranked Minnesota Duluth, falling to the Bulldogs in back to
back overtime games, 6-5 and 3-2.

Teams dealing with aging franchise icons is always a delicate
situation, and there is the distinct possibility that it could turn
ugly somewhere during the process.

Over the course of a hockey season there are going to be ups and
downs. Usually, you can learn a lot more about a team by how they
respond during a period of adversity, than how they react when
things are going well. For the No.15 Wisconsin men's hockey team,
last weekend against North Dakota was their worst performance of
the season, and this weekend does not get any easier as the No.1
ranked Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs come to town this weekend.

Hockey fans have long complained about the NHL All-Star Game. Its
just about corporate schmoozing, the ballot process sucks, the game
isn't entertaining, the best players don't want to play— so why
should the fans care?
(11/15/10 6:00am)
With their high level of play so far this season, the young
Wisconsin men's hockey team had surprised a lot of people. But,
after this weekend's series it is clear that they still have some
growing to do. Welcoming North Dakota to Madison, the Badgers
experienced some growing pains and suffered a two-game sweep
against a veteran Fighting Sioux squad.

With the bowl outlook starting to take shape, certain teams are
still battling to secure their spots in the BCS. This weekend some
of the top teams face challenging tests from opponents that would
like nothing more than to stomp any hope of a BCS bid for a number
of teams.

MINNEAPOLIS—Going into a hostile environment like Mariucci Arena is
never an easy task for any team. The building was at playoff-type
intensity for most of the weekend's action, but a young Wisconsin
team proved to be undaunted, taking three points from the Gophers
in their own barn.

A week after handing Michigan Tech its first losses of the season,
the No. 15 Badgers men's hockey team (2-1-1 WCHA, 5-2-1 overall)
goes on the road to Minneapolis for a date with their border
rivals, the No. 17 Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-3-0, 3-3-0).
(11/02/10 6:00am)
An extremely surprising trend has manifest itself throughout the
first five weeks of this year's NHL season. Some of the strongest
teams from last year have struggled to find their playoff forms in
this season's first month.
