Americans are outraged by the Mark Foley congressional page
scandal. They are disgusted by the people on Dateline's ""To Catch
a Predator."" Child molesters revolt people, and rightly so.
Nothing evokes anger like innocent children being harmed. However,
while Mark Foley and these Dateline predators are very visible to
Americans because their faces fill newspapers and TV, they
certainly are not the only, or even most threatening, cases of
child abuse out there.

Madison Police shot out the tires of a pickup truck near Langdon
Street Saturday after the truck tried to evade a traffic stop and
later charged two police officers, according to police reports. The
truck was allegedly driving recklessly in the snowy weather
conditions when a police officer pulled it over on East Johnson
Street. However, the driver reportedly drove off before the officer
could talk to him. According to reports, the officer decided not to
pursue the car due to weather conditions and instead followed it to
a parking lot located on Gilman and Butler Streets. A second
officer then joined the first, after which the driver allegedly
accelerated toward them. The officers then fired at and flattened
the truck's tires, according to reports. The truck allegedly
continued driving until it reached Howard Place along Langdon
Street, at which point the driver got out of the car and fled. The
driver, Dannon Mourfield, 33, of Madison, was charged with
first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

recommended a 5 percent salary raise for UW personnel. Provided the
state chooses to accept the salary increases for staff and denies
funds to pay for them, the recommendation stands to increase UW
