On your mark, get set, go! And they're off! It's Barkley galloping to an early lead over Bavetta. Barkley continues to lead and down the stretch they come! Oh no, Barkley has started backpedaling, with Bavetta making a mad dash to the finish line. And it's Barkley by a buttock!
It was mildly surprising when Madonna released a live album last year""her first in a 24-year career""and it's even more unusual that her follow-up release is yet another live album in spite of the fact she hasn't recorded any new material. But if there's one thing you learn being a Madonna fan, it's to not ask questions of the queen and just take what she gives you. Fortunately, with the live CD/DVD combo, The Confessions Tour, Madonna has given her legions of fans a fun, occasionally fabulous collection of dance music and succeeded in once again pushing forward her ever-expanding musical boundaries.

The stakes have never been higher this season for the No. 10 UW volleyball team. With two sweeps over Notre Dame and Iowa State last weekend, Wisconsin (26-6) earned a trip to the Sweet Sixteen for the third consecutive year and an opportunity for redemption against No. 8 Texas (23-6) in the Austin regional of the 2006 NCAA volleyball tournament.
Although this season has been nowhere as painful as last year's ""let's give the fans hope every game and then crush it in excruciating fashion"" debacle, watching the Packers this season is still like having a dull headache. It's not terrible, but it causes mild discomfort nonetheless.
It seems everybody has an opinion these days on how the college basketball season will shake out, so we figured we should as well. We polled 11 Daily Cardinal and Courtside writers, asking them to rank all 11 Big Ten teams. First place votes were worth 11 points, and last place votes were worth one. Here is how it turned out.
The results are in and the bracket is set for the 2006 NCAA volleyball tournament, which begins next weekend. The No. 10 Wisconsin volleyball team (16-4 Big Ten, 24-6 overall) was placed in the Austin, Texas bracket and received the opportunity to host the first and second rounds. The Badgers' third-place finish in the Big Ten conference—which features five American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 teams—likely contributed to their high seed in the tournament.
The march to the NCAA tournament is on, and with just six more conference matches left to play, the UW volleyball team is hoping to add to their current five match win streak in an effort to build momentum going into the post season. Wisconsin (11-3 Big Ten, 19-5 overall) will take on Northwestern (7-7, 13-10) and Illinois (5-9, 14-10) this weekend at the Field House in a pair of matches that will likely have great implications in the Big Ten standings.
So close, yet so far. That has been the story of the UW volleyball team's postseason campaign since seniors Maria Carlini, Amy Bladow and Katie Lorenzen joined the program in 2003. Their freshman year, they suffered a loss to Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA tournament. As sophomores and juniors, the trio made it to the Elite Eight, only to fall just two matches short of the title both years.
Following a pair of sensational victories against now No. 3 Penn State and No. 25 Ohio State last weekend, the No. 10 UW volleyball team (9-3 Big Ten, 17-5 overall) will look to continue its winning ways as it goes on the road to face Michigan and Michigan State this weekend. Despite the fact that the Badgers will be facing two non-ranked opponents for the first time since mid-September, the team does not underestimate the abilities of their Big Ten opponents.
Despite having a great deal of momentum from a pair of conference victories last weekend, the No. 11 Wisconsin volleyball team (6-3 Big Ten, 14-5 overall) could not bring border rival No. 17 Minnesota's (8-1, 14-5) hot streak to an end last night, as the Badgers fell to the Golden Gophers 30-20, 30-25, 30-28.
After three straight weekends of competition against Top 25 opponents, the No. 11 Wisconsin volleyball team (6-2 Big Ten, 14-4 overall) will gear up to take on yet another ranked conference rival tonight when it battles No. 17 Minnesota (7-1, 13-5) for second place in the Big Ten at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis. The Badgers are coming off a pair of impressive wins against former No. 9 Purdue and Indiana this past weekend, sweeping both of their opponents in three games without the help of outstanding senior outside hitter Maria Carlini.
Gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Green Bay, unveiled a proposal to prevent illegal immigration and provide incentives for legal citizens to settle in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin volleyball team will compete within its home confines of the Field House for the first time since Sept. 2 this weekend, putting its 2-0 conference record on the line against Michigan State (10-2 overall, 1-1 Big Ten) Friday and No. 24 Michigan (13-2, 0-2) Saturday.
After getting a total of 10 non-conference games under its belt and fresh off of a hard-earned tournament win in San Diego, the No. 14 Wisconsin volleyball team is now gearing up for Big Ten competition as they go on the road this weekend to take on two conference opponents. The Badgers (8-2) will invade the state of Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini (9-1) Friday and the Northwestern Wildcats (6-3) Saturday.
Over the course of any collegiate volleyball game, so many players sub in and out that often times fans fail to take note that a new player has come in. But for Wisconsin Badger fans, it's hard not to notice when senior middle blocker Amy Bladow takes the court. Whether it's because she's crushing defenses across the net with her powerful attacks, shouting out signals to her teammates, or simply because she has decided to change her hair color as she often does, everyone knows when Bladow is in the game and ready to play.
