I briefly regained consciousness from a drunken rage to find myself kneeling over my father in the middle of a dark street. My right hand was raised far behind my head, ready to be dropped on his face. I remember tears in my eyes and a choked up feeling in my throat. Adrenaline had induced a state of tunnel vision and shock, but even then I knew I had done something that could never be taken back.

One of the greatest things about humanity, especially here in the U.S., is that you can make money doing anything. This brings us to one of the most underappreciated occupations, morticians. Morticians are an important aspect of our way of living. Morticians — also known as funeral directors — are responsible for making our loved ones who have passed look presentable during an open casket wake or funeral. They also help with the burying or cremation process.

In recent weeks, our news feeds have been inundated with talk of a new Supreme Court justice. With the retirement of Justice Stephen Breyer, President Joe Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as his replacement. Justice Jackson is the first Black woman justice in U.S. history. There have been many notable moments in her confirmation hearing so far. Justice Jackson’s husband was seen shedding tears in a heartwarming moment. Her daughter was caught beaming with pride, in what will likely be an era defining picture.
