Recording a band with sub-par equipment isn't fun. You'd think I
would remember this from that time I was in a ska band in high
school, but Friday night I decided to try my hand at it again.
Local boys Baristacide came out to The Daily Cardinal office and
set up all of their gear, helped me out by finding a controller to
run the mics through so I could get audio and played a set of
pretty awesome pop-punk-for-people-who-hate-pop-punk. After seven
songs and a few minor technical issues, we ended up with more than
enough for a good session.

My mom, like every mom ever, enjoys the music of Amy Grant. I am
no music snob, but I do draw a line here. Still, moms will be moms,
and every December like clockwork Amy Grant’s Home for
Christmas finds its way into our stereo.

If you’re like me, you’ve recently seen your Internet use change
from taking care of your Neopet and masturbating on Chatroulette to
looking for Christmas gifts for your loved ones. I’ve got some
useful insight on the season of giving that will make your holiday
shopping easier than procrastinating for finals.

Wisconsin is closer to Brussels than one might think. Despite the geographical difference, the fate of the European Union and the Land of Cheese are closely connected, and Wisconsinites have ample reason to closely monitor the worsening debt situation in Greece and Italy. In 2010, 19 percent of Wisconsin goods exports went to the 27 member nations of the EU, more than the total exports to Canada, Japan, Brazil and China combined. In 2009, around 36,800 jobs in Wisconsin were supported by direct foreign investment from France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. And the EU as a whole accounted for $5.1 billion (37 percent) of direct foreign investment in Wisconsin in 2007.

However much it pains me to say it, I am too dependent on the
Internet. I use Google and JSTOR to research papers and articles.
When I miss my TV shows, I quickly rush online to see if Hulu has
them. I use Facebook to keep in contact with my friend in the Army
and my brother in Colorado. So when two current bills in Congress
would allow the government to censor the Internet, I can't help but
feel like parts of my life, however small or large, are in
jeopardy.

In 2012, presidential candidates are expected raise and spend
approximately eight billion dollars in campaign contributions, an
increase of 20 percent from the 2008 election.President Barack
Obama alone is expected to raise about one billion dollars for his
campaign, and don’t expect that money to come from teaching unions
or the ACLU; despite Obama’s promise of liberal change, his 2008
campaign accepted more money from the financial sector than anyone
in history.

It’s a beautiful morning as you traipse into the nearest coffee
shop for your essential caffeine buzz. Your mind is a little foggy
because it’s void of stimulating drugs. Everything is much too
peaceful for what’s about to happen: the order, and worse yet, the
pick-up. No one is sure when or how it happened, but a coffee order
has become a natural social judgment.

Are there any genuine men out there? I’ve had female friends
complain that all men are manipulative creatures who always have
some type of hidden agenda, and I have found myself constantly
coming to the defense of the male species. No longer will I do
this. For now, I agree. Never trust a man with a smile and never
give his small talk the time of day.

This November marks the birth of a new cinematic obscenity from
Adam Sandler. It is so obviously, absurdly horrible that upon
viewing the trailer for the first time, I assumed it was a leftover
gag movie from "Funny People," in which Sandler plays a
hyperbolized version of himself, starring in such fictional trash
as "Mer-Man," "Astro-Not" and "My Best Friend is a Robot"-I wish
that were the case.

Nov. 1 marked the beginning of the holiday season for two
reasons: Starbucks' holiday cups and the release of Justin Bieber's
Under the Mistletoe. It's been over a year and a half
since My World 2.0, and Bieber's voice is noticeably
deeper. Yes, Justin Bieber finally went through puberty. Despite
his inevitable hormonal change, he does not seem to have lost much
of his vocal range at all. Bieber worked diligently over the past
year with the same vocal coach who successfully helped Usher
through a similar point in his career.
