For those that have not yet ventured farther away from campus
than the airport or West Towne Mall, there is a seasonal fixture we
have here in Wisconsin: the corn maze. There are several across the
state, and they come in all shapes, sizes and levels of
difficulty.

The Badgers men's soccer team finished with a tie for the second
straight contest Sunday afternoon, ending the game deadlocked 2-2
after two overtimes against No. 14 Michigan in Ann Arbor. The tie
was the first blemish on the Wolverines' record after they had
started the season 7-0. The game was the first of the Big Ten
season for both squads, in what ended up being a wild,
penalty-filled affair.

Ah, the sophomore slump. I think now is a good time to discuss
this universally frustrating predicament, one which breaks free of
its academic connotations to plague the music industry more
conspicuously than any other art.

When it comes to books, I know what I like. I like Jane Austen.
I like George Eliot, the Brontà sisters, Emily Dickinson. I love
Virginia Woolf. And not even a hurricane could dampen this emphatic
devotion to my girls.

One of the most pressing problems facing upperclassmen today -
along with graduating, procuring basketball tickets and finding a
job - is the issue of bar strategy. Sure, previous generations have
refined and revised the subtle and often beautiful art of the
drunken hookup, but with the passing of time comes the necessity
for new strategies, advice and ideas.

the upper 80s, we are all sun burnt after our first glorious Badger
home game of the season, and the NFL season is just around the
corner, and by that I mean it starts tonight.

You stumble into your sweaty apartment, weary after a long day
of lectures. Amid a stream of obscenities directed at your
worthless air conditioner, you realize you're starving. Sure, you
love beef stroganoff, but that stuff is meant to keep
babushka-wearing women warm in a Siberian winter. You need
something light, refreshing and satisfying.

For many people, the average environmentalist and the average
hunter or fisherman exist on opposite ends of the political
spectrum. Some perceive a sportsman as someone looking to exploit
the resources that an environmentalist would try to protect. In
reality, these two groups often have very similar goals.

Paper is a common object taken advantage of each day we take
notes for class, each time we read a book and each moment we write
a check for something seemingly more valuable. Paper has such an
everyday function that sometimes we forget the different ways in
which paper can amaze us in its visual glory.

When the pioneers were feverishly venturing West, they had to
stand on their horses' backs just to see over the prairie
grass—that is how tall the fields used to grow. Every winter, my
family and I used to load up our van and drive West on the long
expanse to what used to be this new frontier.

Putting a presidency in historical perspective while it is still
in office is admittedly difficult. But each passing day decreases
the probability that George W. Bush will go down in history with a
