Wisconsin volleyball’s magical season ended Thursday night, as the Badgers fell in the NCAA National Semifinals to Kentucky, the final one seed in the tournament. Wisconsin fought hard in a game that went a full five sets, and multiple players made season or career best records, but the Badgers ultimately fell just short of reaching their first NCAA final since 2021.
No. 3 seeded Wisconsin volleyball advanced to the NCAA Volleyball Final Four after two four-set wins against No. 2 Stanford on Dec. 12 and No. 3 Texas on Dec. 14. This marks Wisconsin’s seventh Final Four appearance in program history and their sixth under head coach Kelly Sheffield.

No voy a negarlo. Desde que la tienda Fresh Market abrió en University Square este semestre, nos ha hecho la vida mucho más fácil a muchas personas. Está cerca de todo y la mayoría de las veces, está de paso cuando vas a casa o a tomarte algo en State Street. Además, puedes comprar ahí de todo y no tener que andar de un lugar para otro para poder acabar la lista de la compra.
Y así empieza. El principio del fin. Es casi el fin del semestre y con éste fin muchos piensan: ¿Y ahora que debería hacer? Cuatro palabras: estudiar en el extranjero. El buen tiempo añadido a los muchos amigos que sondean por países extraños en Europa, en Sudamérica y los países que bordean el Pacífico me inspira a viajar. Estudiantes como mí amiga Lindsey quien, mientras yo gasto todo mí tiempo en la biblioteca escribiendo y estudiando, ella está estudiando y bajando en trineo los volcanes en Costa Rica. No es gran cosa realmente... Por escuchando sus historias y leyendo su blog, me di cuenta de que ¡sería una experiencia increíble! ¡No sólo mejoraría mi español (una cosa muy necesaria) pero quizás aprendería a bailar salsa o hablar en frases coloquiales como ""cuando el sapo eche tetas."" Es una frase que me hizo reír mucho. Se dice cuando algo nunca ocurrirá, y es igual a la frase en inglés que dice ""cuando los cerdos vuelen"" según Lindsey. Pienso que aprender frases como estas es muy pertinente, pero al parecer, nuestros profesores no están de acuerdo.
Se me está yendo de las manos…no puedo dejar de hacerlo. Ese botón, ese botón en el Facebook que te deja ""hacerte fan"" va a acabar con mi existencia. Actualmente soy fan de ciento cuarenta cosas en Facebook, y probablemente un 90% son cosas que solamente un español o un amigo mío intimo entendería. ¿Por qué me divierte tanto hacerme fan de estas cosas? Pues es una incógnita que aún he de descubrir. Yo me meto en el Facebook, y cuando me pongo a mirar la portada de inicio, os debo decir que lo único que han hecho mis amigos en esas dos o tres horas es hacerse fan de gilipolleces. ¿Pero son o no son gilipolleces? Vale, puede que ser fan de ""el UOH de la abuela del Titanic al tirar el collar al mar"" sea una tontería que te hace gracia una vez y ya…pero lo que verdaderamente me hace gracia y me rio sola ante el ordenador es describir que la gente ha creado un grupo describiendo cosas que ¡me han pasado a mi!
Una persona puede aprender mucho cuando llega a una ciudad nueva. Este fue el caso para mí cuando llegué a la ciudad de Las Vegas, en Nevada, la semana pasada durante la vacaciones de primavera. Déjame decirte que esta ciudad puede ser un lugar intimidante.
Se acabó. Ya no hay más baloncesto. En un día, las esperanzas de que los dos equipos de la universidad, tanto el femenino como el masculino, llegaran a la Sweet Sixteen del torneo nacional fueron destruidas. Iba a ser un domingo divertido, pero a los estudiantes de último año, yo incluida, se les acabó el animar al equipo de baloncesto como estudiante. Y para los jugadores de último año, se les acabó la competición universitaria para siempre. Días como este es fácil ponerse a pensar en como nunca voy a vivir algo parecido a lo que se vive en el Kohl Center durante los partidos de baloncesto de los Badgers. Hay momentos en esos partidos que lo único que quiero hacer es contemplar el ambiente y meter esos sentimientos en una botellita que pueda sacar cuando no esté en Wisconsin. Y es que nunca volveré a sentir nada igual.
