In December 2019, I wrote a draft for an article about how poisonous the urge for revenge can be — “the cycle of recycled revenge,” if you will. Ever the avid Coldplay fan, I wrote the article as a nod to lyrics from their song “Death and all his friends,” and it eventually saw the light of day in May 2020.

On Saturday the Wisconsin's women’s soccer team will close their regular season with a visit to St. Paul against the Minnesota Gophers. The stakes are simple — win and hold on to the fourth place spot on the conference standings, which should all but ensure a trip to North Carolina for the NCAA tournament after Big Ten postseason play. With a draw or loss, however, the Badgers risk letting one of the four teams within three points of them to jump into the fourth slot.

Guests: Sarah Eichstadt, Ellie Nowakowski and Nathan Denzin.

The population of homeless Madisonians has increased and the conditions this community has faced have become increasingly precarious in the past year where the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has had severe financial repercussions for Americans. Homelessness has long been an issue experienced by members of the Madison community, a fact most apparent in the downtown area, where dozens of homeless people have no choice but to live on the streets.

I grew up with two older brothers. This means I was forced to participate in Nerf gun wars, Bionicle fights, Dinosaur hunts and Hot Wheel races as a child instead of playing dress-up with Barbie, conducting fashion shows with Bratz dolls, cleaning the diaper of a Baby Alive or braiding the hair of an American Girl doll. Don’t get me wrong, when raising a child I believe it is important to allow that child to play with whatever toy interests them, regardless of their gender and what society views as “normal.” However, I was definitely more interested in a Barbie than a Bionicle, but in my house the majority ruled.

All but two of the players in Greg Gard’s rotation — freshman Jonathan Davis and sophomore Tyler Wahl — are seniors.

Let’s talk about comfort food. Close your eyes and picture your favorite food to indulge on. It could be a piece of chocolate cake, some chicken fried rice, a roll of sushi, a bean burrito, some pad Thai, a greasy pizza or even something as simple as mashed potatoes. Is your mouth watering yet? Regardless of what your comfort food looks and tastes like, I bet we can all agree it contains way too much sugar, flour and/or sodium, but I would argue these ingredients are what makes it so tasty in the first place!

What genre comes to your mind when asked to think of love songs? Maybe radio pop, with an earworm for a hook and catchy production. Or maybe something more singer-songwriter, an instrumentally sparse ballad that dramatically lays out a tragic story. You could’ve even thought outside the box and went with emo rock, which often has a focus on a depressingly hopeless sound conveyed through whiny vocals. But even further outside the box, hiding in plain sight, is the hip-hop love song. Often overlooked and criminally underrated, the best hip-hop love songs demonstrate both musical and lyrical mastery, but with a more laid back style. They provide a unique lens on the topic of love and the emotions and situations that come with it, incorporating humorous undertones and witty lines.
