When the average college fan thinks of the football landscape in
the great state of Tennessee, a few things instinctively come to
mind: Orange and White, Neyland Stadium, the Volunteer Navy and the
Pride of the Southland Band. Notice a trend here? All of these
things come out of a certain program located in Knoxville. However,
if one were to look atop the current South Eastern Conference
football standings, they would be in for a Rocky Top-sized
surprise.

Though many have donned the maize and blue for Michigan, there
is one piece of apparel that does not come with enrollment in the
university or even a spot on an athletic team.

If downloads were equivalent to album sales, OK Go's sophomore
album, Oh No, would have already gone gold. The irreverent band's
homemade, unofficial video for lead single \A Million Ways"" has
earned the band the kind of attention that no publicist can
create.

It seems unbelievable now, but only a year and a half ago, Kanye
West was merely one of hip-hop's best and most wanted producers.
His breakthrough debut album The College Dropout changed all that,
turning the focus from Kanye the producer to Kanye the witty,
versatile emcee.

While housing officials at UW-Madison try to find space in
overcrowded facilities for students displaced by Hurricane Katrina,
UW-Milwaukee, is experiencing a public housing crunch as well, due
in part to an exceptionally large freshman class.

With all three major console makers preparing next-generation
systems for release by the end of 2006, May's Electronic
Entertainment Expo was the first opportunity for gamers to hear
what Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have planned. All three expect to
have excellent publisher support, as well as some degree of
backward compatibility. However, each of the consoles appear to
have specific strengths and weaknesses, likely making this next
console war as heated as the last.

Over the past decade, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has
frequently strung his audience along on a rollercoaster of emotion,
refusing to let them off until his wish for salvation, redemption,
revenge or whatever mood of the moment is fulfilled.

In early 2004, Ryan Adams had recently released two albums, Rock
N Roll and Love is Hell, to much critical acclaim. He was
headlining a European tour and riding a wave of publicity. Then he
fell. He fell in quite the literal fashion when he tumbled off the
stage of London's Royal Court Theatre and shattered his wrist. He
thought he might never be able to play again. However, he did. He
picked up his guitar to bless fans with Cold Roses.

When dolphins are flipping, twisting and leaping into the sky
for the first several minutes of a movie, the production in
question must be a huge gamble or a huge joke. Fortunately, \The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"" is both.

It is my third year at UW and up until a few days ago, I thought
I was aware of every restaurant located on campus and around the
downtown area. I was wrong. Marigold Kitchen, 118 S. Pickney St.,
has managed to miraculously escape my restaurant radar.

Before his incarceration last November on a Federal gun charge,
Beanie Sigel rushed to finish his third album. Long anticipated
following 2001's The Reason, The B.Coming reflects its rushed
compilation. The bleak subject matter of Beanie Sigel reigns
throughout (the album's working title was The Great
Depression)-this is a serious album that not only deserves a deep
listen, it demands it.

Producing a cohesive album embracing a varied palate of sounds
chock full of talent and musical inspiration, Unwritten Law hits
musical gold with their rock-infused Here's To The Mourning.
Hard-hitting but simultaneously melodic, Unwritten Law's sixth
release demonstrates their artistic growth and maturity. They have
evolved into musicians after their simplistic punk origins. More
sophisticated than 2002's Elva, Mourning dabbles with electronica
and expertly alternates between hard-rocking and radio-friendly
fare.

Do you realize that the best Indiana Jones surrogate seen in
recent years is Brendan Fraser? Let's just ponder the ramifications
of that for a moment.

While many students in Ireland will gather for mass in
celebration of their country's Patron Saint Patricius today,
halfway across the globe most UW-Madison students will be found
nowhere near a church service, but instead flocking to campus bars
in celebration of their own \holy day"" filled with green beer and
corned beef.

With St. Patrick's Day nearing, I'm reminded of a childhood

kindergarten teacher told the legend of the leprechaun with a

\Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State,"" a speech presented last
night by Northwestern University Professor Peter Hayes, examined
interactions between German business and the Nazis. The
presentation explored the implications for modern corporate
businesses that cooperated with the Nazi party and profited from
the Holocaust.

We are privileged at UW-Madison because our post-secondary
education is enhanced daily by an intellectual, political and
physically appealing environment. However, this does not hinder us
from choosing to explore the education, culture and landscapes of
universities in countries where study abroad programs are
available.
