If you're the type of person who is easily excited by the latest
restrictor plate technology or gets goose bumps when Talladega is
brought up, you probably just want to move on before you read any
further. Maybe, instead, turn to page one and check out what your
cronies are up to in the Capitol these days.

Let's face it, nobody ever agrees with the Oscars completely, and
we here at The Daily Cardinal are no exeption. So we crafted our
own list of the top 10 films of 2010––our best picture nominees, if
you will. We call them the Dirty Bird Awards, and you'll probably
disagree with them just as much as you disagree with the Academy.
But what makes us better is that you can walk into our office and
yell at us in person, which is so much cooler. And the nominees
are:

With the 2011 Academy Awards coming up this Sunday, Daily Cardinal
senior film critics Riley Beggin and Mike Kujak, along with arts
editor Todd Stevens, provide their predictions for who will go home
with the little gold men, who got unjustly snubbed and how the
horse race stacks up.

In case you haven't heard, the Packers won the Super Bowl! In their
honor, I've decided to devote this column to discovering some green
and gold in the arts here on campus.

Whenever a new wave of music takes over the Internet and starts
invading the iPods of hipsters, a lot of bands are bound to get
swept up in that wave whether they like it or not. One band to both
benefit and suffer from this phenomenon recently has been Milwaukee
outfit Kings Go Forth, who have seen their profile rise
considerably in the wake of the 70's soul and funk revival.

As soon as Todd Collins entered Sunday's NFC Championship Game at
quarterback for the Chicago Bears in the third quarter, it was
obvious what would happen—and no, I'm not talking about the Packers
winning. It became immediately clear Jay Cutler would get trashed
by the Bears' faithful fans and any number of media outlets
(Chicago outlets in particular) for not trying to tough it out and
finish the game.

Next week, sports fans around the world may get a chance to witness
history in front of their eyes. This historical run is not being
made on the frozen tundra of Soldier Field, nor on the wind-swept
ground at the head of the Ohio River in Pittsburgh.

Given the Wisconsin football team's incredibly successful season

With exams fast approaching the students need an escape from all
the chaos. We need to keep ourselves sane before delving into the
hell we call finals week, or for some, finals month. This Friday,
steez is going to blow the roof off of the Majestic Theater with
their fifth annual Last Day of Class Mustache Bash. Calling this an
end of the year pick-me-up is an understatement. This concert will
send you into finals saying to yourself, ""I'm going to rock the
shit out of these exams. Creepfunk style.""

As I drove back to Madison Sunday in dreary weather, all I could
think was, ""What the heck am I doing? Did I really leave the
comfort of my home for this crap?""

As an avid participant in modern life, it can be very easy to
marvel at the swift progress of technology. I can take, edit and
post a picture on my phone as easily as I can send e-mails on my
computer, automatically record television shows on my satellite
receiver, play video games that look like movies on my PlayStation
and boil a whole pot of water in five minutes. But there was a time
in which I could do none of those things, a time when most people
were born and died within a ten-mile radius and all books were
handwritten and illustrated. The Middle Ages were such a time, and
on the surface it appears as if that period could not be more
disparate from our own.

Teams dealing with aging franchise icons is always a delicate
situation, and there is the distinct possibility that it could turn
ugly somewhere during the process.

On Feb. 25 Canada claimed the gold medal over the United States

revenge.

Despite playing without Preseason All-Big Ten selection Alyssa
Karel, the Wisconsin women's basketball team barely missed a beat
in their opening weekend, easily handling both St. Louis on the
road and then William & Mary at home.
