Between Bond, Bourne, and Ethan Hunt, the past decade has seen
an unbearable onslaught of conventional spy films. Thankfully, the
newest effort in the age-old "spy" genre provides a nice departure
from the usual fluff Swedish director Tomas Alfredson (helmer of
2008's internationally acclaimed horror "Let the Right One In") has
truly done wonders with "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," a quiet, yet
relentlessly gripping take on espionage cinema.

The UW Board of Regents' Capital Planning Committee voted to
demolish Brothers Bar and Grill on University Avenue as early as
this summer and approved the renovations slated for the UW-Madison
Memorial Union Thursday.

Gov. Scott Walker announced three
appointments to the UW System Board of Regents Thursday.
Walker named Gary Roberts, Gerald Whitburn and Tim Higgins to the
board.
The state Senate must confirm the appointments before the nominees
officially become Regents.
Roberts, of Onalaska, has been president and chief executive
officer of the Morrison Creek Cranberry Company since 1986 after
earning degrees in Political Science and Psychology from
UW-LaCrosse.
Whitburn, of Wausau, was the chief executive officer of Church
Mutual Insurance Company from 2001-10. He previously served as
secretary of the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations
from 1989-91 and as secretary of the Department of Health and
Social Services from 1991-95.
Higgins, of Appleton, has own and ran a healthcare management
company since 2008. He previously served on the board of directors
for the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
The 18-member board consists of 16 members who serve seven-year
terms and two student members who serve two-year terms.

The Government Accountability Board reversed a decision to allow
colleges to use stickers on student identification cards for voting

This month, a long overdue ruling was made by the Wisconsin State
Tax Commission. Former state Sen. Gary George, D-Milwaukee, was
finally required to pay over $91,000 in back taxes and interest.
Corruption of our public officials results in boundless damage to
their constituents, and George's case is no exception. Similarly,
there are tremendously detrimental side effects of the Department
of Revenue allowing politics to delay justice.

I used to have a pretty good friend named Gary. He was a good
enough fellow, and we used to shoot fireworks off at each other
down by the creek every once in a while. Once we even made a pretty
ambitious bike jump over a really deep ravine and Gary, who used to
be pretty daring, ended up shattering his pelvis in several places.
After the ""Pelvis Incident"" Gary was confined to an ""ass-cast,""
as we called it, and went into self-instated retirement for what
ended up being several years. The last few words I ever heard Gary
