Walker appoints three new UW Regents

Gov. Scott Walker announced three appointments to the UW System Board of Regents Thursday.

Walker named Gary Roberts, Gerald Whitburn and Tim Higgins to the board.

The state Senate must confirm the appointments before the nominees officially become Regents.

Roberts, of Onalaska, has been president and chief executive officer of the Morrison Creek Cranberry Company since 1986 after earning degrees in Political Science and Psychology from UW-LaCrosse.

Whitburn, of Wausau, was the chief executive officer of Church Mutual Insurance Company from 2001-10. He previously served as secretary of the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations from 1989-91 and as secretary of the Department of Health and Social Services from 1991-95.

Higgins, of Appleton, has own and ran a healthcare management company since 2008. He previously served on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Alumni Association.

The 18-member board consists of 16 members who serve seven-year terms and two student members who serve two-year terms.
