Coming off of a 0-0 tie and a 1-0 win against Western Illinois and IUPUI respectively at the University of Illinois-Chicago Soccer Classic this past weekend, the University of Wisconsin men’s soccer team (2-2-3 overall) looks to continue its winning ways on Friday as it takes on Big Ten foe Penn State (5-1-1 overall) at the McClimon Soccer Complex in the first conference game of the season for both squads.

Well folks, it looks like we’re in for another splendid academic year in the happiest place on Earth — er, the happiest college campus in the country! The sun is shining, crushed, empty Keystone Light cans are littered throughout the campus and Montee Ball is on his own two feet and running for touchdowns despite the best efforts of his foes. Indeed, we are already living the life.

Do not expect the Wisconsin softball team (11-4 Big Ten, 27-13 overall) to take the pedal off the metal now that they are in the final stretch of the season and have a quick break from the Big Ten schedule. The Badgers hope to keep their four-game winning streak alive when they host the Indiana State Sycamores (13-7 Missouri Valley, 18-26 overall) Wednesday afternoon at Goodman Diamond.

Six American soldiers were killed by Afghan National Army soldiers last week. They were among the 40 people killed in anti-American attacks after American soldiers accidental burned copies of the Koran at the Bagram Air Base. This comes at a time when the United States is increasing training efforts to prepare for transferring security duties to Afghan forces by 2014.

In search of its first home victory of the season, the Wisconsin
women's basketball team welcomes Washington State to the Kohl
Center Friday. The Badgers are coming off of a difficult 54-52 road
loss at the hands of in-state rival Marquette Tuesday. Wisconsin
(1-2) had a 49-46 lead with 2:37 to play, but the Golden Eagles
scored eight of the last 11 points in the game to secure the
victory.
