The offensive position with arguably the most question marks
heading into the 2006 Badger football season has a new man in
charge. John Settle, who has coached 6 of 13 1,000-yard rushers
during his eight years at Fresno State, has been hired as the new
running backs coach at Wisconsin, head coach Bret Bielema announced
Wednesday.

Bill Nayes, football operations coordinator and head of team
travel for the Seattle Seahawks since Feb. 2000, was named
assistant athletic director and director of football operations at
Wisconsin, head coach Bret Bielema announced in a press release
yesterday.

On Jan. 31, two men triumphantly retired with a legacy of
establishing and maintaining prosperous stability. The images of
both men were so influential to their respective areas, that their
retirements were announced last summer to lessen the blow of their
retirement. Jan. 31 marked the end of the Barry Alvarez era in
Wisconsin football, and the end of the Alan Greenspan era in world
economics. While it is merely a coincidence that these two men
retired on the same day, the similarities in their accomplishments
and their approach to obtaining results are strikingly similar:
their lasting legacy is intertwined with that of their
successors.

Putting the finishing touches on his first coaching staff at
Wisconsin, head coach Bret Bielema announced the hiring of Bob
Bostad to coach the Badgers' tight ends and Earl Lane to coach the
defensive line.

UW football running back and UW-Madison freshman P.J. Hill
allegedly wielded a baseball bat during a disturbance outside
Sellery Hall at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 26, resulting in a charge for
misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed, and indefinite
suspension from the team.

For the third time in just over two weeks, a member of the
Wisconsin football team has been suspended for violating the
University of Wisconsin's Student-Athlete Discipline Policy.
(02/03/06 6:00am)
New Badgers head coach Bret Bielema announced Thursday that
UW-Madison junior and former running back Booker Stanley has been
dismissed from the UW football team.

One of the more stressful days of Bret Bielema's life is over.
In the midst of trying to fill his staff and step into the
impossible-to-fill shoes of Barry Alvarez, the new UW football head
coach spent much of the last month working up to Wednesday: signing
day for high school seniors. Although having to replace such names
as Brandon Williams, Donovan Raiola and Brian Calhoun is not easy,
Bielema seems satisfied with his 23 signings.
(02/01/06 6:00am)
Wednesday marks the unveiling of head coach Bret Bielema's first
recruiting class at UW. But truthfully, the group, which is
expected to include 23 players from around the nation (six from
within the state of Wisconsin), still has some old flavor left over
from Barry Alvarez and company.
(02/01/06 6:00am)
New Wisconsin football head coach Bret Bielema's tweaking of his
coaching staff continued Tuesday, when Bob Palcic, an assistant
coach in the NFL since 1994 was named as the new Badgers'
offensivie line coach.
(01/31/06 6:00am)
Bret Bielema's first recruiting class as head football coach at
UW is beginning to take its final form, with five oral commitments
given during the final recruiting weekend.

The Badger Baloney is obviously fake news'merely a satirical
commentary on life in Madison. Except in the case of public
figures, the people are not real.
(01/18/06 6:00am)
Bret Bielema has yet to lead the Wisconsin Badgers football team
on the field as head coach, but already he is carrying out the
responsibilities of the position.
(01/13/06 6:00am)
The news many Badger football fans anticipated for weeks was
confirmed Thursday when junior tailback Brian Calhoun announced he
would forego his final season at UW-Madison and enter the NFL draft
in April.

Orlando, Fla.'??The only thing more surprising than Wisconsin's
24-10 victory over then-No. 7 Auburn in the Capital One Bowl was
the complete performance and dominating fashion executed by both
the players and coaching staff.

His final game at Camp Randall has passed. His farewell tour of
the Big Ten is now over and the bronze statue is in the
making.

The four graduating seniors on the offensive line and in the
backfield'linemen Jason Palermo, Matt Lawrence and Donovan Raiola,
and fullback Matt Bernstein'have certainly taken different roads in
their Wisconsin careers. Two waited until 2005 to start. Another
has been an anchor on the offensive line for three straight years
and might be the senior that is missed most. The last, a perennial
fan favorite, has had numerous shining moments in his four years of
starting, but has been slowed by injuries this year.
(11/10/05 6:00am)
If the name Albert Young sounds familiar to the Badger faithful,
that is because it should. In December 2002, Young made a
non-binding oral commitment to play for Wisconsin (5-2 Big Ten, 8-2
overall), but reneged because of what he saw as too much depth at
the running back position.

Iam not a huge Chris Speilman fan or supporter of the whole ESPN
plus coverage in general. Just because a former Ohio State and NFL
linebacker can put together a few complete sentences every now and
then does not mean he should cover a football game.
