New Wisconsin football head coach Bret Bielema's tweaking of his coaching staff continued Tuesday, when Bob Palcic, an assistant coach in the NFL since 1994 was named as the new Badgers' offensivie line coach.
Palcic takes over for Jim Hueber, who left UW's sidelines after 14 seasons on the job to pursue a job with the Minnesota Vikings.
'Bob has a wide variety of experiences as a coach at both the collegiate and professional levels,' Bielema said in a statement released by Wisconsin Athletic Communications. 'Our offensive linemen, as well as our overall football program will benefit very much from what he will bring to the table.'
Palcic spent the last six seasons as the tight ends coach for the New Orleans Saints, and before that, he served as offensive line coach with the Cleveland Browns for the 1999 season. Palcic also spent seasons with the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons.
Palcic went to Atlanta after spending 19 of the previous 21 seasons coaching offensive linemen at seven different universities, including Wisconsin. He coached the 1993 UCLA offensive line that matched up against the Badgers in the 1994 Rose Bowl. Palcic has coached many great players in college, including the Baltimore Raven's Jonothan Ogden (UCLA) and retired Tony Boselli (USC).
The offensive line Palcic inherits include returning left tackle Joe Thomas, right tackle Kraig Urbik, but will lose center Donovan Raiola, and guards Jason Palermo and Matt Lawrence to graduation.
