Newton's Third Law of Motion says that for every action, there
is an equal and opposite reaction. In the case of Juno,"" it seems
that a strongly-positive critical reaction has returned as a
largely negative reaction from self-appointed ""Juno""-haters. They
rail against the film, matching critics' and audiences' praise with
equally-loud criticism.

Reviewing films, it is my duty to protect you, the reader, from
the worst the theaters have to offer. Because no one has time to
see every movie that comes out everywhere, I need a way to tell
readers FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, STAY AWAY!"" With that in
mind, I give you ""Boron's Laws of Bad Movies,"" a set of universal
bad movie traits, so that you can do the job critics can't:

As I grow up, I find myself rethinking many of the attitudes and
decisions I made when I was a lot younger. The thought of taking
care of a Tamagotchi is much less appealing to me now than when I
was in third grade, the Ewoks are not nearly as lovable as I once
believed and I'm still waiting to get rich selling Beanie Babies.
For a long time, as well, I believed that Mike Myers could do no
wrong, but like digital pets and a certain species from Endor, I'm
beginning to rethink that decision I made a long time ago.

And so it's come to this. This is the last entry in The Boron
Identity,"" and, as luck would have it, the last time my name and
adorable likeness will grace The Daily Cardinal.

Recent superhero movies haven't exactly run the emotional gamut.
From Spider-Man's angst to Batman's brooding, too many heroes seem
to loathe the powers and abilities audiences would give their
Lassos of Truth to possess. In Iron Man,"" however, Robert Downey
Jr. and Director Jon Favreau have made a superhero movie that's
equal parts action, intellect and humor and that earns its place in
the pantheon of great comic book adaptations.

Stepping off the elevator in the Wisconsin State Capitol, one
almost feels out of place among the building's current occupants,
who are all dressed in 1930s attire with hair so slick it reflects
the light. In the next room over, actor Billy Crudup, playing FBI
Chief J. Edgar Hoover, is asking a committee for more
appropriations for his G-men,"" clearly restraining the emotion
that threatens to overtake him at any second. Suddenly, the meeting
is over, and Crudup and his men, angry at the decision, storm out
of the room.

This weekend, Iron Man,"" the first summer blockbuster of the
season opens nationwide. Being the oracle I am, I wanted to make
some predictions so my genius could be preserved for all times. (In
the interest of full disclosure, I was 100 percent sure last year's
""Transformers"" would fail. Damn you, Optimus Prime!) Also in the
interest of keeping my readers, I will refrain from talking about
""The Dark Knight"" as long as I can.

Out on the town a couple weeks ago, I got a campaign call from a
candidate who really wanted to revolutionize the system. Intrigued
by his position, I went to his website, where he offered me these
words: The people need change, they want change, they demand change
- and we're going to give them change!"" Though there are many who
would rather see a certain other candidate elected, he's got my
vote. I believe in Harvey Dent, the front-running candidate for
Gotham City district attorney.

The years haven't been kind to the G.I. Joe"" team. Since their
cartoon was canceled in 1987, ""Joe's"" team members have gone
different ways and found hobbies outside of hunting operatives of
G.I. Joe's nemesis organization, COBRA. Hardest hit was Snake Eyes,
G.I. Joe's mute ninja master.

I believe film can tell any story - there's no idea or emotion
it can't convey. However, I don't believe it is always the best way
to convey that idea or emotion. I hope no one ever makes a film
adaptation of Catcher in the Rye,"" David Sedaris' ""Me Talk Pretty
One Day"" or Michael Chabon's ""The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier
and Clay."" I believe in the power of film, but I have the greatest
respect for the power of the written word.

A story: One of the movies I couldn't wait for last year was one

many movies as I do each year, and only turn off one mid-watching,
that's something else.

As a kid, I can't think of a bigger influence on my media life
than of James Bond. It's no mystery to me why I became infatuated
with the ideals of 007 in my teenage years; at a time I looked for
every bit of media to consume, Bond was in books, movies and played
ad nausea on my Nintendo 64. I don't remember much from chemistry
or physics classes but, given the chance, I could still find my way
through the facility level on GoldenEye"" without getting shot
once. One would think that as I got older, that fascination would
decrease. Think again.

Penelope"" is not a movie for the jaded and the cynical. If you
walk into this modern fairy tale with an ounce of sarcasm, you may
find yourself checking your watch more than you'd like. The film
may have its fair share of issues, but when approached with the
kind of innocence a fairy tale requires, ""Penelope"" is a nice
enough movie to see while waiting for the summer blockbuster
season.

There's an old joke. Uh, two elderly women are at a Catskills
mountain resort, and one of them says, Boy, the food at this place
is really terrible."" The other one says, ""Yeah, I know, and such
small portions."" Well, that's essentially how I feel about my
favorite film, ""Annie Hall."" It's full of scattered one-liners,
now-dated jokes and a non-linear plot that loses context if not
watched carefully - and it's over much too quickly.

When Christopher Nolan, director of Batman Begins"" sequel ""The

candidate to play the Joker, he simply answered, ""He is

uncompromising actor. He was undoubtedly taken from the film
community too soon.

Although films like The Blair Witch Project"" and ""Cannibal
Holocaust"" pioneered the use of ""found video camera footage"" as
a hook for their film, rarely has the technique been used to such
great effect as in ""Cloverfield,"" the new monster movie from
producer J.J. Abrams. If you can control your stomach as the camera
whips around and your point of view follows, a fantastic cinematic
experience awaits you.
