The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department (UWPD) received three reports of sexual assault occuring on campus in the past two weeks and is currently investigating suspects, according to emails sent to the campus community.

UWPD sent out a Crime Warning to students today, Sept. 4, informing them of a reported sexual assault in the last week. The alleged incident occurred in a southeast resident hall and UWPD is currently looking for more information, as it was reported by a third party.

Last week a transgender woman was assaulted at the Goodspeed Family Pier by Yorfred Marcano Gutierrez and Arturo Santos Albujas. Police reported tentative charges of second-degree sexual assault, strangulation and suffocation, battery and false imprisonment. Both men are being held in Dane County Jail with preliminary hearings scheduled for Sept. 8.

This follows another report made to UWPD on Aug. 24, when a second-degree assault occurred near west campus. According to a UWPD Crime Warning sent to students, the assault happened on Aug. 21 and the victim and suspect were known to one another. UWPD is actively investigating this assault.

Those with information or videos related to the assault can contact UWPD’s non-emergency line at (608) 264-2677.

Student support and community resources are available via University Health Services’ crisis line at (608) 265-5600, option 9.
