Liberal-backed Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Chris Taylor visited the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus on election day to rally the student vote and encourage youth voter turnout.
Taylor met with students and volunteers tabling on Library Mall for the second time in the past month, thanking them for their efforts to get out the vote and participation in local elections.
“I care greatly about young people, all students and really every young person,” Taylor told The Daily Cardinal. “Our governments and our courts need to make sure they’re protecting their rights and their futures.”
Taylor expressed continued support for protecting abortion rights, something many students have expressed concern over.
“It's really important to me that I'm allowed to make my opinions known and give power to people that I want to represent me,” UW-Madison freshman Isabella Block told the Cardinal.
Taylor stressed that as a mom, she is reminded every day to “make sure as a judge that I’m doing justice and treating people fairly.”
Students enjoyed free donuts and pizza provided by the College Democrats and took pictures with Taylor.
“I think we're very privileged to be able to vote the way we do and have this system,” UW-Madison freshman Nathan Decok said.
As a first time voter, Decok approached Taylor to tell her she’s the first person he’s ever voted for.
“I'm more progressive and also queer. I trust her more with protecting my rights,” Decok said.
“People are so hungry for a government that works for them, a government that has their backs instead of prioritizing the most privileged,” Taylor said. “I have great hope because I see it in students doing amazing things. So I'm really honored to end this tour on campus with young people.”
Polls remain open today until 8 p.m. Voters can register at their designated polling location and find more info at My Vote Wisconsin.
