The Washington Huskies stood no match for the Wisconsin Badgers’ shooting on Saturday afternoon in Seattle, as Braedon Carrington’s record-breaking performance helped the Badgers overwhelm the Huskies 90-73 in Seattle.
Carrington was the man of the hour Saturday. The senior transfer came off the bench and set a Wisconsin program record by hitting nine 3-pointers on 15 attempts, including six in the second half.
Nick Boyd bounced back after his shaky performance against Oregon, scoring 22 points to go along with nine rebounds. He manipulated the Husky defense by maneuvering around defenders to get to the hoop. Boyd contributed eight of the first 14 points the Badgers tallied, helping Wisconsin build a steady lead.
After a scoreless first two minutes of the game, the Huskies hit the scoreboard first, but the Badgers responded fiercely, jumping out to a 17-4 lead thanks to offensive breakdowns by Washington and Boyd’s control on offense.
Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle pointed to Boyd’s early aggression as a game changer. “He dominated our guards. He got wherever he wanted to,” Sprinkle said postgame.
The Badgers went into halftime with a comfortable 36-21 lead.
The second half was a 3-point contest for the Badgers, who shot 11-for-19 from beyond the arc, with Carrington leading the charge with six 3-pointers.
The Badgers have been living and dying by the 3-pointer all season. In their last game vs. Oregon, Wisconsin shot 45 3-pointers and only connected on 14 of them, losing by double-digits in a game they were favored to win.
But Saturday was a different story. Wisconsin never looked back after building their commanding lead, benefiting from exceptional shooting, playmaking and defense. They simply did everything better than the Huskies and capitalized with a win.
Wisconsin ends their mini road trip 1-1 and will now take things back to the Kohl Center in their home finale against Maryland on March 4. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m.
