The Wisconsin Badgers men’s golf team is gearing up for their annual home match, the Badger Invitational, on Sept. 22-23 at TPC Wisconsin. Fourteen programs will take the course for the two-day tournament.
For this tournament, the mix of momentum and home town advantage could work wonders for the Badgers. After an 11th place finish at Minnesota’s Gopher Invitational a few weeks ago, the Badgers are ready to bounce back.
Jacob Beckman, senior, was able to card a bogeyless round and jump nine spots on the leaderboard to finish top 20. James Bousted was the Badger’s top finisher for the tournament, carding one under and placing ninth.
Although TPC Wisconsin is not the Badgers usual home course, it is located right in Madison. From being able to play a course they have seen before to having fans being close by, the course is an advantage.
The 18-hole championship course went through massive renovations a few years ago and has gained immense recognition since the changes. The course is no joke — fast greens, tight conditions and water hazards make it a true challenge.
Spencer Turtz is someone to keep on the radar going into tournament play. Turtz, a senior and Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient, has proven to be a key player for the Badgers, with multiple big wins under his belt, including the Wisconsin State Four-Ball Championship. With a chance to play well at home, The Badger Invitational provides a crucial opportunity for Turtz to display his experience and leadership.
The Badgers have a lot going for them stepping into this tournament. From familiarity to senior leadership, they have what it takes to score low.
