$2.7 million raised for UW through Day of the Badger

UW-Madison community members raised $2.7 million for University schools and colleges, athletics and organizations last week as part of its “Day of the Badger” fundraising initiative.

The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association planned the second annual "Day of the Badger" efforts, which spanned 1,848 minutes, in remembrance of the year UW was founded, on April 6-7. Of the 5,782 gifts, 2,027 were from donors in Wisconsin. The College of Letters and Science was the largest beneficiary, with 1,606 gifts totaling over $510,000.

“We are so grateful to all of the alumni and friends of UW-Madison who stepped up to help meet critical needs,” said Senior Managing Director of Annual Giving John Grice in a release. “These funds will be distributed in the next days and weeks to help students and the university accomplish its many important goals.”

The Chancellor’s Annual Fund was highlighted as a recipient of the gifts. Donations amounting to over $45,200 from 159 donors will support scholarships, student services, research funding and community initiatives.

Another recipient, the Divine Nine Garden Plaza, raised $30,835, totaling well over their campaign goal of $5,000. The garden plaza will be a physical space located on campus at the Vilas Green to honor the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s role as a foundation for leadership, advocacy and academic achievement among the UW-Madison Black student population.

UW community members can donate to the fund on the University of Wisconsin Foundation website.
