UW student charged with assaulting UWPD officer in Witte Residence Hall

UW-Madison student Logan Mitchell was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Sunday after UW-Madison Police Department officers forcibly removed him from Witte Residence Hall, according to a UWPD report.

A UWPD officer responded to a report of Mitchell urinating in a Witte hallway. Mitchell became aggressive toward the responding officer and struck him in the face. Mitchell’s removal was captured on video and posted to Instagram

With the help of two additional officers, Mitchell was taken to the ground and handcuffed yet remained combative throughout the arrest.

Mitchell was taken to Dane County Jail with a blood alcohol concentration of .20. He was cited for underage drinking, possession of a fake identification and depositing human waste. He was additionally booked into jail for battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and causing injury.

Assaulting a police officer in Wisconsin is a Class H felony with penalties including a fine of up to $10,000, imprisonment up to six years, or both according to Wisconsin State Legislature documents
