Jacob Baggott has been announced the new UHS Executive Director.

UHS hires new executive director

Jacob Baggott will bring 30 years of experience in college administration and health oversight to UW-Madison as University Health Service’s newly named Executive Director.

Baggott was one of three finalists up for the lead position of UHS, being selected after a year-long process. He succeeds Sarah Van Orman, who left the position in 2017 for another job.

Baggott currently works at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as the assistant vice president for student health and well-being, but starting in May he will begin his career at UW-Madison.

“It is a privilege and an honor to be able to join the team of professionals at UHS,” said Baggott.  “I couldn’t be more pleased to be coming to Madison.”

As Executive Director of UHS, Baggott will manage the university agency that provides health care to students. He will also lead the development of health policies and programs on campus.

With UW-Madison being named the best college health service by the Princeton Review for three years in a row,

Meredith Mcglone, Director of News and Media at UW-Madison, said she is confident that he’ll build on the tradition of excellence that the university upholds.

As a finalist, Baggott said if he was selected he would bring innovation to UW-Madison and work to create something “uniquely Wisconsin.”

Now, Baggott looks forward to being on campus. He said this will help him understand the culture around health at UW-Madison, which will lead to the implementation of new ways to improve student life.

“There are plenty of opportunities to further the health and well-being of UW-Madison students,” said Baggott.
