Winter Solstice

The vast lake froze

On a dark cloudy day.

Like a snapshot in sepia, with

Icy grey hues of still waves.

The pallid sun at noon struggles.

Bullied by the cold,

Harried by the night,

Hanging low in the sky,

Wary of the horizon.

As the drifting snow and the wind
