Finalists named for Letters and Science dean

The University of Wisconsin-Madison announced the names of four finalists for the dean of the College of Letters and Science Monday, three of which are current professors on campus, according to a university press release.

The four finalists are John Coleman, professor and chair of the political science department; David McDonald, history professor; John Karl Scholz, professor and chair of the economics department; and Jane Tylus, former professor of Italian studies and comparative literature.

The finalists will each give a public presentation on campus at the beginning of May. Coleman will present May 9, McDonald May 15, Scholz May 13 and Tylus May 16. Each presentation will take place at 3:30 p.m., with locations to be decided at a later date.

A search committee chaired by Jeff Hardin, professor and chair of the zoology department, recommended the finalists to Provost Paul DeLuca and Chancellor David Ward.

The candidate chosen by DeLuca and Ward will succeed Gary Sandefur, who has served as dean since 2004 and plans to step down at the end of the academic year.
