Electrician dies after shock in Humanities building

A UW-Madison electrician died Tuesday after being electrocuted while working at the Humanities building.

The university has not released the employee's name, pending notification of his family.

Around 4:15 Tuesday afternoon, the electrician was working on wiring in an attic above Mills Concert Hall when he was electrocuted. His coworker called 911 immediately after hearing the electrician scream.

After failed attempts to revive the worker at the UW Hospital, he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:15 p.m.

""Our thoughts and prayers are with this employee's family, friends, and colleagues,"" Fish said in a statement to the university.

University officials said the Humanities building is not a danger to campus, but requested people avoid the area.
