The likely answer to this question would be No. However, Jake Gyllenhaal does an excellent job bringing Prince Dastan to life on the silver screen. In ""Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,"" he embodies the character and gives Dastan the heroic and witty edge a film version needed in order to succeed. The film itself is packed with numerous action scenes, a bitter rivalry and exquisite acting. It is no less thrilling than the games that inspired it. And for an audience member unfamiliar with the games, the movie will hold even more suspense and surprise. The main character, Dastan, begins the tale as a mere urchin boy. Once adopted by the king, however, he proves to be very noble despite his lack of royal blood, showing himself to be brave, wise and instinctive. After a few unfortunate events in the beginning of the film, Dastan learns whom he can and cannot trust. He goes on the run from the Persian Palace and meets a variety of intriguing characters along the way. As he learns the dark truth of what could possibly become of Persian rule, he grows more determined to successfully secure the future of Persia. Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) is both a nuisance and an aid to Dastan on his quest. Arterton embodies the beauty and spunk a princess needs. She is smart, beautiful and cunning. She even outwits Dastan several times, but always remains his ally. Together they work toward saving all mankind.
Directed by Mike Newell, ""Prince of Persia: Sands of Time"" meets the expectations of devoted gamers, even exceeding some. It is action-packed and generates tremendous suspense. Audiences will watch wide-eyed in anticipation for what will unfold. Although the movie shows us how precious time is, watching this movie is time well spent.
