Many fans of metal and rock alike will love the new Bullet for My Valentine album, Fever. This is the third release the band has put out, and it is by far the best. Their first, The Poison was released in 2005, and their second, Scream Aim Fire, came out in 2008. Now, Bullet for My Valentine has managed to put another great album together while still riding the success of their last release.
Each of the album's 11 songs are sure to engage Bullet for My Valentine's fans, however, there are several standout songs on the record. ""Begging For Mercy"" will have listeners humming along to the chorus the first time they hear it, wanting to listen to it multiple times over. Not only are the lyrics to this song moving, but the instrumentals are energizing, with an amazing electric guitar solo picking up near the end of the song.
""Your Betrayal"" is also an exceptional track. The first minute is full of genuine rock 'n' roll instrumentals, and the song's beat really gets you moving. Also, much like ""Begging For Mercy,"" the lyrics of ""Your Betrayal"" are catchy and memorable.
These cathcy lyrics include, ""You were told to run away / Soak the place, and light the flame / Pay the price for your betrayal, your betrayal, your betrayal / I was told to stay away / Those two words, I can't obey / Pay the price, for your betrayal, your betrayal, your betrayal.""
Lyrics like this will definitely get stuck in listeners' heads after one mere listen. They pair nicely with the background instrumentals, and the song's beat adds excitement.
""The Last Fight,"" ironically also the last song on the album, does not follow the ""save the best for last"" rule. Falling short of other tracks, the song is fairly repetitive and the backround instruments don't provide an engaging sound. It's also not terribly dynamic, and it fails to grab the listener's attention. It is still a decent song, but its placement at the end of the album only shines a light on its failings.
Overall, Bullet for My Valentine has done a fantastic job putting together their third album. There is variety within the individual songs and the record as a whole. The instumentals are also superb, with a few great guitar solos being especially worth listening to. Because of this, Fever is likely to keep old Bullet for My Valentine fans coming back, as well as lure in a few new ones.
