UW aims to shoot down Air Force

The Wisconsin women's basketball team will look to take flight against the Air Force Academy Saturday in a non-conference battle. Wisconsin (4-3) won its only other meeting over the Falcons (4-4) with a 91-54 victory last season.

Air Force is coming off a 56-53 victory over Northern Colorado Wednesday night, while the Badgers soundly defeated the Panthers from UW-Milwaukee 79-59 at the Kohl Center Tuesday.

Wisconsin head coach Lisa Stone said senior guard Janese Banks found her rhythm"" against UW-Milwaukee, as the Indianapolis native set a new season high with 23 points Tuesday night.

Senior Danielle Ward and freshman Alyssa Karel also set season highs, posting 10 and nine points, respectively, in the victory over the Panthers.

Senior guard Jolene Anderson will look to improve on her season-low 11-point output the last time out. Anderson, averaging 22.4 points a game, needs just 123 points to tie the Wisconsin women's career scoring record set by Barb Franke in 1996.

The Falcons are led by senior forward Alecia Steele, their newest 1,000-point scorer. Steele is averaging 16.3 points and a Mountain West Conference leading 9.4 rebounds a game this season. Guard Raimee Beck adds 11.1 points and dishes out 3.1 assists per game as a freshman for the Falcons.

Air Force is the second Mountain West Conference opponent the Badgers will face this season. Preseason MWC favorite Wyoming defeated the Badgers 67-66 in overtime in November.

Game time for Saturday's matchup against the Falcons is set for 11 a.m. at the Kohl Center.
