Police arrested a man on Madison's east side during Tuesday evening rush hour for his sixth offense of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence.
According to Madison police, the incident began when they were alerted of a potentially disabled"" vehicle at the intersection of Northport Drive and Sherman Avenue. A Madison fire crew was nearby and approached the vehicle in traffic. The man appeared to be passed out inside the car until a passer-by leaned in and tried to talk to the driver, at which point he sat up and drove away.
Police said fire personnel followed the vehicle and witnessed it swerving and nearly hitting an oncoming vehicle before driving up and over a grassy median. The car then turned into a dead end. The driver then proceeded to park at the end of the street and entered a nearby apartment building.
Police arrived and located the driver, 39-year-old Ricky Guillen of Madison, inside the building and arrested him for his sixth drunken driving offense.
