UW Police are investigating a suspended UW-Madison student who wrote potentially threatening e-mails to UW-Madison English department faculty last week and issued a poster Monday to alert faculty in Helen C. White Hall.
Michael Bernard-Donals, chair of the English Department, sent an e-mail to faculty that identified Brian Glueck, 25, as the man of interest and described his appearance, should faculty see him in the building.
According to the e-mail, University of Wisconsin Police Department Detective Peter Grimyser is working on the paperwork necessary to take Glueck into custody.
Grimyser, as well as many English Department faculty members and teaching assistants, would not comment on the situation Tuesday night.
Last March, Glueck was charged with having unauthorized possession of university keys as well as depositing human waste products on university lands. The two misdemeanor charges against Glueck are still pending and he is scheduled to appear in Dane County District Court Nov. 30.
According to the poster, Glueck was given a restraining order in March for harassment, which prohibits him from having any contact with a UW-Madison English professor until March 2011.
We were a little concerned that the student might not be thinking rationally,"" Bernard-Donals said.
However, the poster said Glueck has no known history of being violent or possessing weapons.
The Offices of the Dean of Students suspended Glueck from the UW-Madison campus in August until June 1, 2009.
Bernard-Donals said Glueck has not been seen in the Helen C. White building following last week's e-mails, and there is no reason to believe that he will be back, adding that Glueck's e-mail was ""more disturbing than it was threatening.""
""We just wanted to alert people that the student had been back in touch with faculty,"" Bernard-Donals said.
UWPD wants students to call 264-COPS if they see Glueck in or around Helen C. White.
