Authorities chase man in stolen donut truck

A 36-year-old man led authorities on a high-speed chase down University Avenue early Saturday morning in a stolen Krispy Kreme truck, according to police.

Madison police said Warren Whitelightning of Crandon, Wis., stole the vehicle as the driver made a delivery inside an Open Pantry on University Avenue near UW Hospital. University of Wisconsin police and Madison police combined efforts to pursue Whitelightning.

Police said Whitelightning struck a squad car with the stolen donut truck during the chase. Also during the early morning pursuit, police said Whitelightning drove against traffic at speeds of more than 80 miles per hour.

Authorities finally cornered the man in a Copps parking lot on University Avenue, where he surrendered and was taken into custody. For his alleged actions, police charged Whitelightning with eluding, operating a motor vehicle without owners' consent, endangering safety, a fourth operating while intoxicated, retail theft and numerous other traffic violations.
