The Madison police announced Wednesday they have filed a felony warrant for the man they think is responsible for the death of an MATC student during a hit and run accident in March.
According to police, Felix Romero-Ocotl, 30, of Madison, is a primary suspect for his alleged involvement in a March 10 hit and run at the intersection of Park Street and Regent Street. Lucas Peerenboom, 20, was the victim in the incident. He died two weeks after suffering injuries from the accident.
Police said the formal charge against Romero-Ocotl is hit and run resulting in death. Madison police spokesperson Joel DeSpain said police received a tip from an area auto glass specialist who fixed Romero-Ocotl's van after the incident.
DeSpain said that tip prompted them to investigate Romero-Ocotl and they found he lived in the area and has family in the area. He also said Romero-Ocotl may be on the run but the search for him in the greater Madison area continues.
