Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz will travel to Israel next week for the Jerusalem Conference of Mayors, the Madison Jewish Community Council announced Monday.
The conference invites 60 mayors from across the world to have discussions about their local policies and how they fit into the context of international affairs, according to a statement from MJCC.
The event, which is in its 25th year, is supported by the American Jewish Congress-Council for World Jewry, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
This year, discussion will center on the city as a metropolitan center, with a special emphasis on the role of mayors in meeting economic, demographic and political challenges.
In addition, Cieslewicz will meet with Jerusalem's prime minister and president and will visit Hebrew University where he will meet with UW-Madison students currently studying there.
