A 22-year-old Madison man was the victim of a severe beating on the 200 block of Gorham Street early Saturday morning by two men who wanted pizza, according to a report by the Madison Police Department.
At approximately 3 a.m., police responded to the Gorham Street area to find the victim battered and bruised. According to the report, the victim was walking home when the two suspects—a 6-foot-tall white male and a 5'6"" black male—approached him and demanded he hand over the pizza he was carrying. The victim refused to concede the food, much to the chagrin of the suspects, police said.
After a brief exchange of words, the victim and one of the suspects began to fight, the police report said. As the fight wore on, the victim actually ended up controlling the fight and remained on top of the suspect to prevent further harm.
However, the suspect who was pinned to the ground reportedly broke free and bit the chin of the victim, regained control of the fight and began violently punching the victim in the head. Police said a passerby helped scare the suspects, who eventually fled the scene before officers arrived. It is unknown whether money or pizza was stolen.
The victim was treated for minor injuries, and the bite he suffered to his chin from the scuffle required six stitches.
