Hundreds of women and a few men crowded a room at the Overture Center, 201 State St., Friday with their eyes set on actress Sharon Stone and U.S. National Soccer team members Julie Foudy and Abby Wombach, among other notable women stumping for the Kerry-Edwards ticket.
The event was part of Women on the Move, a national tour touting the Democratic presidential candidate's positions on women's issues.
Speakers addressed a wide range of issues including education, the situation in Iraq, homeland security and abortion.
Stone appealed to the compassionate side of her female audience when she asked UW-Madison junior Heidi Katchkeg to join her on stage.
\I think we have forgotten that this is what a soldier looks like,"" she said, referencing Katchkeg's youthful innocence. ""We have to remember that when we vote for our president, a commander in chief, we're voting for the father of our nation.""
